Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.

It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

Rege [2014] Ratings: 8/10 When I heard the title, it sounded like a La-Sherlock Homes in Mumbai or a Political drama. But, I was clean bowled! Surprisingly, the movie was of my taste with a run time of just 2hrs.It's more like Quinton Tarantino style .. The screenplay unfolds in a non-linear format, taking you back and forth. Few examples .. Pulp Fiction (for story telling style) ; Kaminey [2009] + Satya [1998] for its realistic feeling & Gang vs Cops story + 1 Character added = Rege [2014] Its not a ground breaking movie. But, yes,, it tells us that if you make a movie with passion & keep the audience on the edge ,.. scratching their head for clues. Then it's a sure shot winner. Film's simple story suddenly becomes its advantage and creates a gritty, violent story without showing too much gore.Performances are Top Notch: 1. Mahesh Manjrekar leading the pack 2. Velankar – The boy stuck in the middle of Gang & Cops 3. Special attention to Pushkar Shrotri, who has been seen always in comedies, plays a serious role with great perfection. 4. Crisp editing; Cinematography and the background score are major factors to the film's style. 5. This film is very Marathi + gritty & violent – all at the same time.TP Bloopers: Its just my point of view. 1. By watching the trailer, I never thought this movie was so strong. 2. The title name "Rege" also sounds odd. Only after the movie completes you deliberately go along with the flow. 3. Tagline- 'Are you paying attention to your kids?' is also not fitting properly. Even though I strongly believe that this movie must be watched by teenagers as well. Ahem, this movie makes Singham II look like a Pussy .. (Meow..)

Marathi cinema has always been under the shadow of the Hindi cinema industry, even while being the local language of the state of Maharashtra. It (Marathi Cinema) mainly made comedy or family oriented movies, but recently the tune seems to have changed, new directors, story writers and experimenting with ideas and concepts never thought before in Marathi cinema.Rege, is one such film, to sum it up in a few lines, In every human being there lives a wild animal
'Rege' is an honest attempt to present the reality.'Power', 'success' and 'greed' for a glamorous lifestyle can change lives forever. Everyone here is desperate for richness, respect and yeah most importantly, money and this moment of desperation triggers greed, greed and more greed.'Aniruddha Rege', a well educated boy, son of a renowned surgeon. He feels it's cool to be associated with the underworld. Power play in police force or politics in underworld is something 'Ani' has never experienced before. 'Rege' is a story of this innocent young boy, and his involvement the anti- social elements. The social message to the youth of today is, "All that glitters is not gold!".

Anirudhha Rege (Aroh Welankar) is the model student and son. The MBBS student is a topper in exams and is involved in cultural activities in college, and at home he is the obedient son whom his father treats more like a friend than son. On an invitation from his friend Pakya, Rege goes to a Janmashtami event where he happens to come across M Bhai, a local gangster. M Bhai's persona and the power that he commands leave Rege in awe of him. Soon he is on friendly terms with M Bhai and his gang. They chill out together, spend time at Rege's farmhouse and M Bhai even helps Rege in becoming the cultural secretary of the college. All the while you observe Rege slipping into risky territory until one evening when his life takes a hideous turn. From there on, the studious Rege gets entangled in a web of crime, police lock-up and fear; a life that results in dire consequences. He ventures into a world where encounter specialists Pradeep Sharma (Mahesh Manjrekar) and Sachin Waze (Pushkar Shrotri) are the last people someone in his position would want to see. They say curiosity kills the cat. The phrase stands pretty true in case of Aniruddha Rege
