How wonderful it is to see this fine actress carry a film and carry it so beautifully.

Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.

The alternate reality concept is what drew me to the movie. But the scenes are so slow with long periods of characters just staring at one another in silence or staring out across the landscape that I almost wish that I could have hit fast forward repeatedly without the fear of missing some vital dialogue.SPOILER: STOP IF YOU ARE GOING TO WATCH. The premise of the movie is that a German unit is searching for a map that is important to the German SS. But the maps importance is never explained. In addition, key characters make life-changing decisions without explanation to the audience as to why they're making the decisions. And then the movie justt ends with no resolution of what is going to happen with these characters.

Film explores complex thematic elements, mostly with success, but it gets a bit confusing around the end. That the UK was never under legitimate threat from German invasion during WW2 is irrelevant. Themes of war explored transcend WWII and transcend the English setting. Themes such as partisan insurgency, war fatigue, cognative dissonance, and motivation to fight are important and rarely explored. Not an exciting film but compelling and mind opening.

I'm big on war movies and I bought this cause the plot seemed appealing. I just got done watching it and it made me wish I could get my money back. This was more of a sappy love story between a woman whose husband left the village to presumably join the resistance and a German officer who stumbles upon her home cause they want to set up an outpost in the village. Considering what the title of the movie is, I expected to see action between resistance fighters and the Nazis. I saw none of that in this film. Since when is shooting a horse a normal action from a resistance fighter? This was pretty much the only action in the whole film if you don't count the random flashbacks that explain nothing. Complete waste of time.

If, as I was once told, war is 99% boredom then this film is an accurate representation of 99% of war. I persisted watching it because it I felt it might possibly have been one of the worst films I had ever seen. in the same category as Rocky 4, Meet the Spartans and Don't Mess with the Zohan. Indeed this film is in that class. The story is ridiculous in saying that the Germans could possibly have successfully invaded Britain in 1944, when they were being inexorably pushed back on the eastern front and in other theatres. The story was non existent, the acting wooden with overlong pauses in the dialogue. It was a massive waste of a couple of hours, boring and without merit whatsoever.
