Monkeywess This is an astonishing documentary that will wring your heart while it bends your mind
Brainsbell The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
Myron Clemons A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
Phillida Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
TheLittleSongbird Saw 'Rest Stop', being fond of horror regardless of budget (even if not my favourite genre) and being intrigued somewhat by the idea. Being behind on my film watching and reviewing, with a long to watch and review list that keeps getting longer, it took me a while to get round to watching and reviewing it.Giving 'Rest Stop' a fair chance with being interest and apprehension, it turned out to be far better than expected. Won't say that 'Rest Stop' is a great film (mediocre actually) because it isn't and the potential, while not wasted, is not fully lived up to. Considering the large number of films seen recently being mediocre and less and wasting potential, was expecting worse and was relieved that while wanting in a fair few areas it was actually one of my better recent low-budget viewings.'Rest Stop' started off quite well, the first twenty minutes or so starting the film off on a promising, unsettling and atmospheric note that really does intrigue. Production values did have some eeriness and nowhere near as cheap as expected. The setting is effectively spooky. Initially, there are spooky and suspenseful moments, it isn't dull, and the storytelling initially does intrigue. Admired that it tried to be more than a standard slasher film, the supernatural element does intrigue but that it's open to interpretation so divisively says a lot for things feeling confused and muddled too often. However, the story was severely wanting in the second half after starting off promisingly. It is very disjointed and after the promising start the final third especially loses atmosphere, one loses interest and things start to not make sense. Too much of the film is vague and doesn't explore some elements and story strands enough, some dropped soon after being introduced, go nowhere or serve much point.Ending is unsatisfying, on top of feeling hasty there are too many loose ends hanging in the air and it all felt abrupt. Got the sense that the writers didn't know how to end the film. Would have liked much more tension and suspense (where there is barely any of either), scares could have been more consistent (again nowhere near enough) and some weren't surprising enough and had no atmosphere, the over-obvious sound not helping. Coherence wasn't a strong suit either.Found too the script to lack natural flow and with a fair bit of cheese and blandness going on, and the characters bland with some adopting some annoying and not always logical decision making. There is very little menace to the conflict, uncreative and unscary kills, the direction is phoned in and generally the acting is subpar with some lifeless lead acting from Jaimie Alexander. Elements intended to "spice things up" (gore and profanity were overused and gratuitous).Overall, mediocre. 4/10 Bethany Cox
Reno Rangan I watch B movies, but not that regularly. This was a direct-to-video film. I know nobody from it. At first it did not feel like I'm watching a film, but like someone who wanted to be a filmmaker is messing around with his camera. But it was not a matter, I got used to it, especially once the thrill part had started. It's an out and out thriller that is set in a remote place where a young woman was trapped by a mysterious killer. So her survival game begins, but the killer is always a step ahead. How long it can go like this and what happens at the end are the rest of the film to tell us.Those thriller parts were good for such a low cost film. But the screenplay was very very bad. It had a story, but there's no reason for it. Totally failed on that to give one. That's what people always expect at the end the film to explain. It was more like a silly random act, though most of the 'killing' films are similar. They have added a sex scene at the very beginning, knowing there won't be a place for it in the latter section. You can say it was unnecessary, but to bring more audience to the film to watch. I have seen even worse. So, for the attempt and for a couple of scenes it deserves some respect.3/10
Uriah43 "Jesse Hilts" (Joseph George Mendicino) and "Nicole Carrow" (Jaimie Alexander) are two young lovers who decide one day to take off for Hollywood where fortune and fame undoubtedly await. On the drive from Texas they stop off at a rest stop which is off of the beaten path and appears to be almost abandoned. Nicole then goes into the restroom but when she returns she finds that Jesse has disappeared. At first she thinks he is playing a game on her but when a man in a yellow pickup truck drives by and throws his cell phone at her she realizes that he has been abducted. She is now left at the rest stop all by herself with no way to get help and with a potential maniac on the loose. Now rather than reveal any more of this film and risk ruining it for those who haven't seen it I will just say that it had a pretty good premise to work from. Unfortunately, it failed to live up to its potential. The main reason for this is because it seemed to lose focus on several different occasions. In any case, those who enjoy splatter films without rhyme or reason might find this entertaining but quite frankly I found it to be somewhat disappointing and I have rated it accordingly. Below average.
atinder Rest Stop ( 2006) I don't why but for a few weeks, I got this mixed up with Drive Thru (2007.I sas few year ago,bat least Drive Thru was a lot fun to watch and really enjoyed). (Funny that both of these movie 4.4 IMDb site) both went to Straight to DVD.A young couple seem to go on a road trip, they almost get hit by another car, only for the boyfriend to angry shout abuse at the driver before it's drivers off. They come to the rest stop, where the girl goes to the nasty bathroom and come back out to see her boyfriends as gone, at first she thinks it's a Joke. I found the whole movie was a joke, cause felt so bored after all that happened and then movies just kept on going around and around and around in circles and those scenes were not that good at all. They were not scary, tense of anything , it was just flat from start to end, I could not wait for if to end. Just before the 45 minutes, I was trying really hard not to fall a sleep.I thought the movie could be better in the latter,.I was wrong there too as is stayed in that bleak flat zone and the acting was all over the place from the lead.I could not take her serious atall. (In her few scenes, she clam and the next crying and going over the top, some scenes felt like she was just read from the script at the moment. The whole movie was very predictable, nothing that not really done in otherbhorror/thrillers movies, shich have been done much better then this. There one scenes that I really liked, which I thought was really stranger and very odd in a good. That scenes was really point-less as it had nothing to with the main plot. 2/10 Avoid it!I won't be seeing the sequel anytime soon!
