A brilliant film that helped define a genre
Organnall
Too much about the plot just didn't add up, the writing was bad, some of the scenes were cringey and awkward,
Noelle
The movie is surprisingly subdued in its pacing, its characterizations, and its go-for-broke sensibilities.

I liked this movie; it kept me engaged. I thought the casting decisions were great, except for Samson, but to be honest it's because he didnt strike me as Hebrew. I will say as I watched it I noticed scenes where I thought to myself 'is that the way it really happened?' Samson only appears in four chapters in the Bible so I assumed the liberties they were taking was that there really wasnt enough to the actual Samson and Delilah story. I waited until the movie was over before doing a Samson refresher. I discovered that they took liberties that were totally unnecessary making Samson seem as pure as they could, all the while making Delilah out to worse than she really was. Samson wasnt attracted to the three women the bible says he spent time with and he certainly wasnt in love with them. He did what he did to rile the Philistines. And Delilah didnt set out to betray Samson; it was discovered she was spending time with him and she was approached by the prince's men. I dont blame her for self-preservation!! I wouldnt recommend this movie to someone trying to find out more about Samson and Delilah!

Acting is good. Fight choreography is pretty good. The story and writing is good. The problem is the pacing and effects, oh and beards.

It is easy to blame the entire team of this film. for so many reasons. it is cheesy and unrealistic and absurde and uninspired and seems use the Samson story as pretext. but... it is expression of good intentions. the good actors used in awful roles. the transformation of the hero from a boy to a revenger/vulnerable man. the doubts. maybe the fight scenes. and a beautifuf Dalila. the only sin - the dialogues. and the use of characters as stickers. the lead error - to use Jackson Rathbone for a so stupid role. the others - too familiar from religious films and mythological versions of old legends. the error - why use well known names for insignificant roles ? in rest - a film looking be a Bible episode at usum delphini. not surprising. but a MTV version is not the most inspired idea. not only for respect to Holy Book. but for the taste of improvisation about a film who was expected, by a part of public . the good part - it is...original, because, scene by scene you must imagine to see a religious movie.

For a number of reasons, making a 'religious' movie that doesn't lend itself to being lampooned or derided, must be a difficult task. Especially for stories found in the Old Testament. That is why the best-ever religious movie and the most widely viewed one is 'Life of Brian'!
I loved the original 'Samson and Delilah' because it was so corny and melodramatic where even the canvas on which the fake shimmering moon was painted for a night scene, actually flapped in the breeze!
And so I approached this retelling of the strong man's story with an equally mischievous intent for a good laugh - and I was not disappointed.
Three stars for the camped up portrayal by the major characters, the variety of accents, the script and dubious special effects. And of course, for the entirely implausible story.
