Diagonaldi Very well executed
ChicRawIdol A brilliant film that helped define a genre
Catangro After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
Skyler Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
Tracy Winters OK telling of strange goings-on in the world's most famous 'hot spot'.Haig (Doug McClure) is an irresponsible helicopter rescue worker who derails his investigation of a seemingly abandoned ship so he can try to make it with the lone woman survivor he finds hiding on board.Meanwhile, Pagnolini (Michael Conrad) is the helo pilot who DOES NOT have his head up his butt. When he realizes that Haig is taking too long to return to the deck of the ship with the survivor, Pagnolini smartly high-tails it out of there so he can refuel, as well as not having to listen to Haig destroy the pronunciation of Pagnolini's Italian name -- it's pronounced Pon-yo-lini, not Pag-o-lini (idiot Hollywood writers). Some eerie moments, but mostly an exercise in 'looking-at-the-clock-while-waiting-for-the-ending'.
mrb1980 Back in the mid-1970s there was quite a bit of interest in the Bermuda Triangle, and a few movies were made about the subject. In my opinion, this is the best of those films.Kim Novak (who is absolutely beautiful here) is involved in a sailing trip through the Bermuda Triangle. There are lots of sinister goings-on, and Novak eventually needs to be rescued by Coast Guard Capt McClure and his crew.Good photography, beautiful scenery and great work by Novak and McClure lift this film above the usual 1970s TV movie standards. I won't ruin the ending, but it still scares me, 36 years later! Hold on to something and watch this, but you've been warned about the unexpected, bizarre, and very scary ending. Not for the faint of heart.
kctkeller OK, the other comments did a great job of covering the story so I wont rehash it. Let me instead tell you the tale of what effect it had on me, a 13 yr old in the summer of 76. I was home alone that Fri. night as my folks always went dancing on Fri's. I began watching it thinking it would be just another Fri. night movie of the week. I could not have been more dead wrong! As the movie progressed, I sank deeper and deeper into fear and I became so scared that I couldn't remove the blanket I was under. I remember being SO hot under that blanket but I dared not move. The sweat poured off my legs and chest like a garden hose! The ending SCARED THEE HOLY EVER LIVING HELL OUT OF ME. I seriously was almost in tears! To top it off, our front door, when shut, would stick. To come in, you had to hit it with your shoulder to open it and it would make a rather loud jolt as it opened. My perfect timing parents chose to come thru that d@#n door just as the credits started to roll and I'm here to tell you that if my heart had been weak at all, I would have met my maker that night! The Jolt of that door put a chill down my spine from the top of my neck down to my ass. I almost blacked out as I recall and thats the closest I've ever come to fainting I do believe. I also had to pee like a Russian race horse so I was just as relieved as I was scared when I saw it was my mother walking in. To this day when anyone asks me, "whats the scariest movie you've ever seen", I always answer "Satans Triangle" without hesitation! The only movie to ever come close to frightening me like that was 5 yrs. later when "The Shining" came out. It scared me pretty bad, but not like this one did!! If you ever get the chance to see it DO IT! It may not have the kind of effect on you as it did on me 31 yrs ago but at least you will know what I mean! If anyone out there has a copy of it, I would LOVE to have it. Email me. GREAT MOVIE!!
mwelsh-6 I saw this as a young adult while in the Army in Hawaii. I was sick in bed one day and stumbled across this flick just as it started. I have always remembered this film because of the ending. When Doug smiled while bobbing in the water, I just about froze with chills. The Marlin floating below deck was trey creepy too. It was the only time I have ever seen this film. This was in 1976 so its been 30 years and I can still see that expression on his face. I've probably seen hundreds of horror films since and forgotten most of them, but Satans Triangle stands out as one of the best low budget creep fest's to date. well done. I miss Doug McClure.
