While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

Scream Bloody Murder (aka Claw of Terror, Captive Female and Matthew). This is NOT the greatest horror movie by any means but I was expecting the film to be far worse than it really is - it's better than I was guessing it would be.Matthew killed his father with a tracker, one of his arms was mangled in the process and then he was sent to a mental institution for awhile where they tried to fix his mind and his hand by giving him a metal claw to use in place of the hand. His mother wrote him and told him that she had someone new in her life and when he got out the 3 of them could be happy living together... but Matthew didn't like that idea and when he got out of the institution he headed for home and killed his stepdad because he wanted it to be just him and his mom. His mother found the body and in an argument he was upset and killed her too. He got a ride out of town and ended up in a place where he fell for a girl but others will end up dead and the girl held hostage because Matthew decided he wanted to keep her.Don't expect a high quality film here but it's better than I expected it to be. I will say it's very bloody at times - which I'm not overly crazy about that type of film but at least there is a fairly interesting story to go with the bloody stuff.5/10

Hm... interesting. that's what you say to yourself after sitting through 90 minutes of "Scream Bloody Murder". Now we're on to movie number 5 out of 50 on our chilling classics DVD set. and actually, not only is this not one of the worst so far, it's actually kind of decent. but of course that doesn't mean it's great either. The first 15 minutes of the movie are actually pretty damn good. the kid kills his dad with a tractor and the little kid gets his hand rolled over by a tractor. that's pretty sweet. and then after he's released from a mental hospital 10 years later, still as crazy as ever (glad to know our tax money goes to such an "effective" loony bin system) he goes around killing a whole bunch of people for no reason. that's pretty cool. Then of course the movie goes into "Collector" territory and starts to go downhill a lot after that. He falls in love with a painter named Veera and starts to call her Daisy. He kills the people around her and threatens to hurt her if she doesn't stay with him forever... Wait a minute. i've heard this plot before... wants a girl to stay with him forever...names her daisy... threats...OH MY GOD! this is the same plot as the anime "Don't leave me alone Daisy"!!!!! holy crap an anime actually copied the plot of this movie. wow that's really sad.The edits in this movie are LAUGHABLE. right when he's about to kill someone they use a terrible looking jump cut which makes me laugh more than anything. As for acting, the two leads are ACTUALLY pretty convincing. i was shocked, but i actually believed them. so good job on their part (claps) one thing i did not like was in one scene he kills a dog. That REALLY hurt this movie with me. if you hurt an animal in your movie, you lose a good 2 points out of 10. Not cool man. not at all. Especially because there was no REASON to hurt it or for it even to be in the movie. It shouldn't have been there and it was a poor decision. As for the ending, i honestly did not expect that. interesting twist. not very believable, but hey, when you're in a place where apparently police don't exist, you kind of have to suspend your disbelief. there were some cool parts and creepy imagery. Not the best horror movie ever, but not atrocious.Scream Bloody Murder gets 4 hook hands out of 10.

Wow,... if you thought Norman Bates had serious mommy issues, then you haven't seen Matthew! The film begins with Matthew as a young boy killing his own father with a tractor in order to possess his mother. In the process, the boy has his hand torn off and he's sent to a mental institution.Years later, Matthew is supposedly cured and sent home. He appears to be in his 20s and looks like what you'd expect the kid from PROBLEM CHILD to look like today. Upon his return home, things aren't so happy because he proceeds to murder his new step-dad as well as his mother (oops). After running away, he then begins killing people who remind him of his mother and step-dad. It's all very bloody by 1970s standards and it's really creepy when he calls these innocent women "Mommy" before killing them. Talk about having Oedipal issues!! By the way, for those who care to know, Freud coined the term "Oedipal Complex" because he felt that all very young boys wish to secretly sexually possess their mother and that successfully working through this struggle is a normal part of development. It all sounds very creepy but in the case of this film, the guy goes way beyond what's normal!!! This is a very low-budget film and none of the gore is all that realistic. I actually think this is a good thing, as nowadays, the realism of the brutal killings in this film would be too much for normal people to want to see. Here, however, it all looks like red paint and there are no synthetic guts like a modern film might have. While none of this is especially good or well done, it is, in a sick way, entertaining. I particularly liked when he had a fight with the old lady and the golf clubs (By the way, pet lovers might just want to speed through the next scene). I also like how Matthew talked and acted like a 10 year-old throughout the film--it edged up the creepiness level a few more notches.Apparently, he did in the old lady I mentioned in the last paragraph so he could re-create his mommy in the form of a prostitute who has befriended him. He pretends the house is his and brings the hooker there. However, Michael behaves so weird that she is scared--and that's pretty bad considering the sort of clients she serves. When she tries to run, he takes her prisoner (much like Kathy Bates took James Caan prisoner in MISERY) and then sets about doing EVERYTHING to make their lives together perfect. But is she thankful?! No!! So, of course she incurs the wrath of you-know-who.This is a good film for horror fans. However, it's not a film for kids AND it might be a bit too much for people who have had weird stalker relationships (this will definitely be tough to handle) or people who secretly want to sleep with their mommies! My score of 5 must be explained. While this is not high art, for the budget, it's pretty good and watchable and does a good job of scaring the bejeebers out of you!By the way, in the nude scene (you don't see anything), the lady is supposedly naked and she says she's taken off all her clothes, but if you look not all that closely, you can see her black underpants. Finally, dang those rotary-style telephones!!

Matthew will do anything for sweet easel exctasy. Even murder! Fred Holbert in his one and only movie role plays functional retard Matthew with the mother of all complexes, pun intended. A tractor "accident" leaves a young Matthew without a father and his mangled left hand is replaced with a hook. After being released back into his mother's custody he returns to his murderous ways as anyone with a pulse draws his ire. The bulk of the movie revolves around the relationship between Matthew and virtuous artist/hooker named Vera played by Leigh Mitchell. Bad seventies cheese dominates this movie. Fred Holbert isn't bad as his character remains with a childlike demeanor despite his violent tendencies. What mystifies me is the fact that they gave this character a hook for a hand and he uses anything but that to kill with. This movie does have a few unintentionally funny parts. Matthew's run-in with a cane waving grandma and her useless dog as well as the most persistent candy sales-boy ever provided the lone bright spots. Scream Bloody Murder is part of mill creek entertainment's 50 chilling classics collection though I recommend finding it on the internet for free as it's worthy of one viewing and nothing more.
