FirstWitch
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Humaira Grant
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

At first the film started off fine in the classic first person documentary position. However, the more I watched, the less documentary it seemed and the more staged it became. Some of the voice over commentary is dribble at best.As an active member in the armed forces and having good knowledge of the areas the film took place in, the more unbelievable the story line became. Lars taking all the liberties which he did in the film truly would have got him killed in a matter of days. Moreover, the fire fight scenes we completely staged and dramatized. But the movie is a drama so I guess that goal was accomplished. If the film was scaled back to Septem4er Tapes, I probably would have given it a higher rating. Once the point of beyond reason was reached, the film makers should have just wrapped it up. Seriously, an American with a camera going to interview the bounty hunters searching for Bin Laden and Bin Laden himself..... I am sure he would have granted the interview if he was indeed found. Come on. The plausibility of an outsider especially an American roaming freely to find Bin Laden is just too much.

Harrowing, obsessive quest of a photojournalist in lawless Afghanistan. Although it's a movie, it seems like a documentary. The on-site filming and the use of actual Afghan police and other locals heighten the documentary "look & feel" of the movie. The Dolby/DTS 5.1 soundtrack during the gun battle and the chase scenes will have you feeling like ducking for cover from the bullets and rockets. You'll hear the rockets whoosh from your front to rear speakers and then explode behind you. You'll hear the bullets whiz from L to R and front to rear speakers. The explosion of the 2,000 lb bomb" will give your sub-woofer a resounding workout. The final scene sheds welcome light on the main character's relentless pursuit of Osama Bin Laden. In the DVD release, the Director's Commentary and the MAKING OF features are well WORTH watching too -- very enlightening and entertaining.

This is the first time I am giving a 10/10 on IMDb. As every opinionist, mine is biased. But I consider myself a connoisseur of mainstream film and have fed on a healthy diet of indie film as well. I can probably remember about 900 movies that I have watched. I am a professional in training. This film deserves at least an 8/10-- at least! I see the 5.7/10 average right now and it screams that someone does not like the film makers. I hope my 10/10 jumps the avg a little. I can see how someone may not like that these film makers tried to "cash in" on this episode of suffering, but their product really delivers.I knew the film was a Mockumentary from the start and it still held me riveted (right word?). The action sequences were very very intense. The pacing of the movie was wonderfully orchestrated...good work producers, excellent editing work. I was very impressed with the editing techniques and post-production...fabulous for a mid-budget indie film...The lead actor really impressed me also.George's acting was "always on" and he took a great risk in doing this film. Wali and the director say right out that they did not get along with George near the end, and that is understandable. I am even more impressed that they still stuck with their casting choice because they must have foreseen the "fiery" anti-chemistry that would arise. everyone took a chance...I believe they did risk bodily harm too.Camera work was either very lucky or very very skillful. I'm sure the editors have much to be lauded for in that arena too. The imagery was great even tho tiny hand-held everyday consumer cams were supposedly used for a small portion of shots. The entertainment of any art form often lies in suspension of belief/disbelief...in trickery, this film was done by a "smooth criminal" smooth operators... intelligent artists.Whether the producers or directors are good or bad, that is for God to judge. we're film critics. the everyday audience.

This movie wasn't what I thought it would be. I indeed thought it was a real documentary but realized about half-way through it was a complete bunch of crap. What I really found extremely irritating was the main character's blase attitude during the whole film. He's supposed to be in a country torn apart by years and years of war and filled with terrorists who would love to get their hands on an American yet his demeanor is as if he's in a shopping mall somewhere in suburban America. I mean give me a break. And the scene where he gets arrested, saying he can get more information if he is taken into custody. Ha Ha Ha . I actually laughed during this scene. (Was this really supposed to be a comedy?) There were too many scenes to state that looked absolutely absurd. On the cover of the DVD, it read "OUT-GUNS BLACK HAWK DOWN AND SAVING PRIVATE RYAN." WHAT???? The only movie this out-gunned was Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. I was totally disappointed though I did watch the whole thing. The character Walid's acting was the only thing that saved this DVD from going into the fireplace. I give it 4 out of 10 and again, only because of Walid's character.
