It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.

A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

Danny Dyer. The name conjures up images of some of the greatest films set to grace the big screen of all time. Yeah... right. His films (post 'The Business' and that one about football hooligans that was kind of similar to the one Frodo was in have hardly set the Box Office ablaze). However, somehow he still gets works. And for a good reason – no matter how bad his films get, we – the people – still seem to watch them. And that's just the bad ones! 'Severence' is actually pretty good. So, er, we have a group of people (including Mr Dyer) on a trip to somewhere remote (do you care?) where they get picked off one by one. Yeah, it's basically a 'slasher' movie only with white-collar office workers (if you can believe that Danny Dyer would ever be employed by any self respecting office) instead of dumb, blonde, American teenagers (although I should mention that one of Danny's co-workers is actually American and blonde – I wouldn't dare say 'dumb').So, if you've seen one slasher film then you've basically seen them all – including this. Just don't take it as an excuse not to indulge. Yes, it's nothing new, but it sure is fun. The dialogue is snappy and the characters fun to watch. And, if that's not enough, you have the gore. Again, for a low budget film with no stars (sorry, Danny – no offence, but you're hardly Tom Cruise) the gore is nicely done and pretty sick (special mention to a missing leg scene). And, if nothing else, there is possibly the most amusing use even of a rocket launcher (if not the sickest – technically) that even rivals the RPG fired in Chris Morris' 'Four Lions.' Don't expect a great movie with Oscar-worthy performances, or self-realising character arcs. Basically, if you like daft, cheesy slasher films then you should enjoy this. And if you also appreciate Danny Dyer's 'acting' abilities then you'll get double for your money.

i enjoyed this film, I've seen it three times, i'm a big Danny Dyer fan, so i had an idea what it would be like. It starts like all good horror films, with seemingly innocent characters going off on a trip. Its quite slow at first, which lets you get sued to the characters, then slowly and frighteningly bad things happen, which gets faster and faster etc.. like all horror films, there a few twists. spoiler alert the maniacs are quite good, the effects believable, and painful looking , bits of humor, and quite believable how the characters turn on each other when in distress. if you like budget horror films and Danny Dyer, then you'll like this. Tim Mcinerry ( capt darling)of black adder fame is in it as well.

Horror is almost always an excuse for talentless directors to create absolute poop. It caters to a very specific fanbase, it seldom ever garners any accolades or awards outside that fanbase, and in many ways it's on the same level of porn. That being said, when you see a film that's both comedy/horror, it may have an interesting premise and you may expect to be entertained, but you also overwhelmingly expect to witness absolute garbage. This film, I think succeeds as a horror/comedy in a way that you wouldn't expect and it's the only such film which I've seen to date that transcends being strictly a horror film. It's able to be both funny and horrific at the same time as portraying a degree of realism. Sure the premise is a little bit staged, and things are somewhat over the top in terms of what you might realistically expect, but you never feel as though the characters are speaking to the camera as is so often the case in these films, what happens in the film is not so ridiculous as to be unbelieavable, and the action/violence is very well directed. Both the comedy and the horror are extremely clever and co-dependent where one amplifies the other, and a lot of over the top clichés are avoided. For example the scene where one of them has his leg stuck in a trap and his co-workers keep trying to open the trap and it keeps slamming shut on his leg; because it's a bit funny, at least to me made the gruesomeness stand out so much more. The buildup of the film starts off as a typical comedy film. For these types of films, this portion is almost always anywhere from tedious, uninteresting, to downright boring. In this case, none of the characters really come across as annoying or unlikeable as is often the case with slasher films, I was rather enjoying the team building atmosphere, and was kind of wanting the film to remain a comedy, but of course midway through, everything begins to go wrong for this group of colleagues. A horror film that actually makes you empathize with the characters in this way is not one that's going for cheap scares and shocks, but one that actually wants to draw you into the story, which is really the only way to give the viewer that feeling of suspense.Christopher Smith's previous film "Creep" was a huge flop in my opinion, but the sheer cleverness of this one really puts a lasting notch in his belt as a director. Hopefully he continues to breathe new life into the horror genre as well as transcend it.

Good old team building exercises. The sales team gets sent to do some paintballing in a forest setting and after some amusing fallings out, inter-personal problems, and displays of dysfunctionality, that thing happens which is the worst thing which can happen on team building jaunts. Yes, you've got it - a man trap cuts off the leg of one of the members. And, as if that wasn't bad enough, someone kills their driver, chops the head off another team member, sets fire to... you get the picture.Severance, like From Dusk To Dawn, starts off in one genre and switches to another half way through. In both cases, the part-films work: the first half is genuinely funny and the second half (last man standing slasher movie) is violent, bloody and suspenseful.Weird but, of its odd kind, not at all bad.
