InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Dhanisha Tailor (dhanishaxo) After reading such horrific reviews I thought i would watch this movie and decide for myself if it was actually as bad as people were saying it was.I tend to love rom coms (Hollywood ones more than Bollywood) so i was more than pleasantly surprised when Shaandaar exceeded my expectations and contained everything and more than a usual rom com would.Yes it is whacky, some of the dialogues are very corny, and some of the characters and scenes are ridiculously out of the ordinary, but at the end of the day, it is a COMEDY and a comedy aims to make us laugh, which I think this movie did very well. It also has some very heartwarming scenes; Alia's scenes with her father were a delight, Shahid and Alia's chemistry was fab and I feel that these three main characters were very well written and developed. The casting in this movie was wonderful, especially in the case of Alia, who played her role of a quirky insomniac to perfection!I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a quirky comedy with some heart touching scenes involving family, love and relationships. I would say anyone who enjoyed the likes of Housefull, Partner, Chennai Express, Jab We Met, Mere Brother ki Dulhan, Ready, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, and other similar movies would definitely enjoy this!
Sharon Kambo Many people find it easy to draw comparisons to Queen and Shaandaar considering both were directed by Vikas. However, both have completely different stories and styles and it doesn't do justice to either movie when comparing.Alia and Shahid were wonderful as usual and I didn't expect anything less. Alia did an amazing job with keeping up with Shahid's dance moves.. Shahid is Shahid and I don't think there needs to be any further explanations. Their chemistry in the movie was absolutely adorable!!Many critics are claiming that they didn't enjoy certain animations throughout the movie, but I think it adds to the zany personalities of Alia and JJ. At the end of the day, movies are made for our enjoyment and if you spend time picking apart every single scene, there's bound to be things you don't like.Spend the night with your family and go watch Shaandaar! Don't think too hard and just enjoy what a cute movie Alia and Shahid created!SPOILER: Many people are confused about the panties in the tray scene and how they got there. In the previous scene, Alia went swimming in the waterfall and left her clothes at the top of the fall. When JJ comes and "saves" her, he gives her his jacket to cover up and she leaves her clothes at the fall. As the story goes, he apparently takes them and places them in her tray the next day. Hopefully this helps clear it up!
Ketan Gupta Bollywood has carved out various films based on the wedding theme and they have done well so far. Monsoon Wedding, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Band Baja Baraat etc are all about wedding clothes, drama, endless dance and song sequences with glorified Indian shaadi rituals. Shaandaar takes one step further by exploring the destination wedding theme but turns out to a forgettable affair.Shaandaar talks about a business deal between two families at the backdrop of destination wedding theme in the countryside of UK. However, little is known to them that both families are bankrupt.Expectations are sky-high as the film is directed by Vikas Bahl who previously made the National Award winning film Queen. With big names like Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar backing the film, it was supposed to be better than Queen. However, after watching the film you will be disappointed big time. The movie begins with impressive animation telling the story in flashback coupled with subsequent introduction of each characters. If the first half is hilarious, fun and has moments to be remembered, second half is thoroughly disappointing. Even though Bahl had wonderful story to tell, but the lethargic pace and superficial drama could not salvage the film from falling into the pit. The good news is that there are few engaging moments like the wonderful chemistry between Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor, the interaction between Shahid Kapoor and Pankaj Kapur, the visual appeal of the film and the stunning CGI makes it somewhat watchable. Music by Amit Trivedi is good but not excellent. Editing is extremely poor. Why the heck of putting in scenes of Karan Johar's interview, Qawwalli song and the sky- diving which causes hindrance to the movement of the film. Cinematography is astounding capturing the exotic locations of UK. Choreography is electrifying especially in the "Gulabo" and "Shaandaar" songs.Performance is the only silver-lining in this messy drama. Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt carries the film on their shoulder. The unusual pairing will be loved and liked by all. Shahid Kapoor does well in entertaining you and Alia Bhatt looks charming and adorable. She is just getting better in expressions with each film. Pankaj Kapur is brilliant. His scenes with Shahid will definitely bring down the house. Sanah Kapoor does a good job as a first timer. So , overall , a golden opportunity gone wasted . Rather than concentrating on technical aspects of the film , Vikas Bahl should have made sincere efforts in the direction and screenplay area. If you are looking for a fairy tale candy-floss romance, Shaandaar might be be a good choice otherwise you can skip it. Decent 2 / 5
Rajasri Nanduri Watched the movie first day first show. The movie was obviously not an epic one but there was comedy, there was romance, there was great chemistry among all the actors and a brilliant cinematography, what more can one expect from a romantic comedy. I would personally give the movie a rating of 7-8, but seeing so much negativity from all these 'high standard' people, rating it 10.Pros: Cinematography, Shahid-Pankaj Kapoor's chemistry, Shahid-Alia's chemistry, the portrayal of Sana Kapoor (Isha) and the songs (visuals, music, choreography, everything).Cons: Unnecessary comedy (read: not funny) parts of the sindi samdhi guy (Sanjay Kapoor), lack of a strong story. Neither a pro nor a con: Unnecessary animation parts
