Absolutely the worst movie.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Scarlet
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Cristal
The movie really just wants to entertain people.

Just when i thought i was done expecting something different from Bollywood, came along this HELL of a movie, pure desi, made in India!! Right from the start, Shaitan is extremely engrossing. I did'nt move an inch throughout the span, and ended it with a feeling of utter satisfaction and gratefulness of not having wasted my time in another stupid movie Bollywood's so full of.Shaitan has no huge starcast. But a small, and in this case, exceptional bunch of actors just gave unbelievable performances. Rajeev, Kalki and even the VJ turned actors, Neil and Nikhil have acted their parts great. But this isn't it. The story and the out-of-the-box movie-making is the heart and soul of Shaitan.Co-Written by Bejoy Nambiar, the director himself, this story is greatly presented. It shows the makers have understood the plot and have captured it just the way they wanted. But what deserves a special mention is the camera juggling the makers have so beautifully performed. Its the kind of camera movement and shot perspective one might expect in a crazy Hollywood movie. Its sheer pleasure to have witnessed such uniqueness in the presentation.Lot said, but its still incomplete without a special mention of, undoubtedly the highest point of the movie. The chase-cum-gunshot scene where the gang outruns a chase after having brutally beaten(probably killed) a man who tried raping Tanya(Kirti Kulhari). There's also a simultaneous gun fight involving Rajeev, Nikhil and Kenyans(!!) with an ultra catchy background score, the remix of classic Hindi song "Khoya Khoya Chand". The scene's breathtaking, to say the least. All in all, this is a must watch for those who are'nt afraid of trying something different for a change. Go watch it, its far from disappointing...

I watched this movie with a lot of expectations and was hoping some sensible stuff from Anurag Kashyap's production house. But after watching the movie I wondered who the Shaitan (Daemon) was. Was it the director (Bejoy), the writer (again Bejoy), producer (Anurag) or the viewer (a.k.a. me)? More on this later. The movie started off quite well with good introductions of main characters but slowly it started going nowhere. A lot of situations in the movie were useless. For e.g. the issues between the inspector (Rajeev) and his wife were unexplained. Also there was no real need of this particular track.Towards the second half, the director (I wonder who suggested him this) decided to put a lot of songs instead of a background score. Can you imagine songs playing in the background one after the other while you show the serious stuff on the screen? As far as performances are concerned, the inspector (Rajeev) was the best followed by the commissioner (Pawan), KC (Gulshan) and Zubin (Neil). Amy (Kalki) and others were average.Overall it is a one time watch movie that you want to forget asap.So who was the real Shaitan? I guess it was the director as he could have made a more tight and gripping stuff.

Shaitan is a very well made movie and Performances of the actors are also fantastic..it keeps you on the edge of seat and ending is superbly done.. I have been a fan of thriller movies and nearly sen all Hollywood movie from Hitchcock to current source code..They are great movies and i am glad shaitan came on Indian screen by an Indian director and maverick produce/director/actor Anurag Kashyap.. I always liked his kind of movies and watched his every movie .. They are simply great and he is his own unique style of storytelling which keeps you hooked till the very end.. The movie is a cinematic achievement and is a must watch for every cinema lover..Casting is perfect with Rajeev Khandelwal as a tough cop..Role suits him and so was the kalki's role..It was role made for her..Also to mention i liked KC and That LSD guy..The new breed of actors is real good..Having said all these i would also like to add that while watching Shaitan you get nearly all emotions(which is its strength) and it has some eerie feeling also.. It is great cinema ,no doubt about it..But a great cinema can also influence great many people and the generations also.. I know that my single stance can not change anything but still i would like to maintain that this world lacks optimism and cinema should spread optimism ..Positive movies with positive motives and selflessness should be made..When you come out of theater you should be full of energy and optimism about life in general..I hope all people there making movies will understand it..You all are genius and very hard working and may be intellectual or philosopher also but communication and cinema are very strong medium and strong are its effects..Entertain and educate and enlighten(in spiritual sense) people with your power of movie making..Thanks and Shaitan is great cinema..8/10..

The self realization process is always tough. You have to deal with inner demons and divinity. Some people call it Emotional Intelligence. Emotional intelligence is about to know your emotions and being aware of how to express it. There are lot of among us who doesn't know how to express rage. They prone to rage instantly and make unfavorable decisions. Shaitaan talks about it but unfortunately in unorganized way. The director, cinematographer succeeds to set loud premises for the film, but then they fails to deliver organized, tight film. It is script that fails to realize resolution point. Director tried too many concepts but he never concluded a thing. This film ends with uncertain note. Director wanted to tell that inner demon can destroy you and there is also divine side which can be pulled out by love, sympathy, affection. Screenplay is real star of the film. Sequence where two protagonist fights in front of Jesus gives you multi-dimensional perspective. Shaitaan comes with surprises, because only predictability of inner demon is its unpredictability. Love can takes you away from your inner demon. It was justified in the film.Acting department has got new talent. Rajeev Khandelwal is the one who stands out. You can see maturity in his acting. Kalki's story is a high point of the film, especially opening sequence that exactly portrays inner demon. Actually director treats it as a part of personality rather than predefined emotion. Cameramen used similar camera movement in the introduction sequence of the film that enriches the experience. I enjoyed that part most. Background score is funny because it brings out the sarcasm. There are very small details that make this cinema more interesting. Things like original name of Amy that sounded like typical Indian rural name, which emphasis on contrast between personalities. Hammer car that denotes loud, care free attitude towards life.Somehow this film reminds me Danny Boyle's Trainspotting, may be because of care free attitude that portrays in both films. In the era so called entertaining cinema, this kind of cinema maintains balance in Hindi film industry,
