Dorathen Better Late Then Never
AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Aneesa Wardle The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Payno I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
cutesd First, I need to make one thing abundantly clear, this movie is the definition of over-the-top. Nothing in this film is intended to be believable on any level. So if you like action films that have a lot of depth and realism ... this is not your film. But if you can buy in to what this film is selling you are in for one hell of a wild ride. The fight scenes are extremely creative and well choreographed, it's really well acted, it has a decent plot, and best of all it doesn't take itself seriously.Do yourself a favor, put your logical brain on snooze for 90 minutes and enjoy!
Nicolas F. Costoglou ...that's the whole description you need for this movie...no really there isn't much to talk about. "Shoot em' up" is a very simple but incredibly fun and cartoony action movie, that never tries to be something else. The one-liners are cheesy, the action is so over-the-top that i can 't compare it to something else i've seen, and the plot is so paper- thin that the movie just starts, without introducing anything, you press play and it just goes without stopping. The first shot of the movie is Clive Owen looking intensely into the camera and than munching on a huge carrot, while sitting on a bench seemingly without any reason, and then the plot just comes to him...quite literally. And the Elmer Fudd of our picture is played by Paul Giamatti, who is more psychotic as ever, it's amazing, and disgusting to watch. The action is the selling-point of the film and man does it never holds back. In one scene Clive Owen sleeps with Monica Belucci and shoots some bad guys, while doing it. In another scene he jumps out of a plane and has a skydiving-shootout with some bad guys...you won 't believe it until you see it... Only downside is the editing, which is at times a bit too fast and sometimes you don't really know where all the people are in the room, but because of the cartoony nature and the fun moments it's not too bad.The most interesting part is that it works, strangely enough, the weak characterization and the cartooniness of the film work in it's advantage, at the end it get's down right touching and intense, you really begin to care for what's going on, and enjoy the experience...at least i did.All in all "Shoot em' up" does all it set out to deliver, and even more, it's pure entertainment and incredibly fun...
Python Hyena Shoot 'em Up (2007): Dir: Michael Davis / Cast: Clive Owen, Paul Giamatti, Monica Bellucci, Stephen McHattie, Greg Bryk: Title pretty much sums up the potential of this dead beat action crap. Clive Owen plays a hit-man of sorts under the name Mr. Smith who intervenes when a group of men are pursuing a pregnant woman. He delivers her baby while dispatching every thug within reach. She still ends up dead but he finds a prostitute to assist in looking after the kid. Then it is more bang, bang, bang, bang, bang! Director Michael Davis can film action but the screenplay is one big piece of sh*t. A third grader can write better stories than this. Owen is unsympathetic especially seeing him kill someone using a carrot. Does it not occur to him to eat it? Now they're using items in the produce section in the grocery store to assassinate people. Lord forbid he show up on the scene with a fully stocked picnic basket. Perhaps we may see action films heading our way that present cooking show hosts as action stars. Paul Giamatti steals scenes as the villain who is often interrupted with phone calls from his wife. How this is settled is a cheap laugh but at least Giamatti puts in an effort. Monica Bellucci looks stunning as a prostitute but does little more than flee the scene. She should have fled to the set of a better film. Action scenes are well done but it should be used as target practice. Score: 2 ½ / 10
Christian Stauffer This film has an incredibly stupid story, it's like something a 12 year old would write when attempting to create an action film. The story is simplistic, the characters make no sense, the action scenes are completely over the top and the lines are as cheesy as a swiss fondue. This is by no means a good film. But if you want to be entertained by nonstop funny action, this is the place to go. If you're looking for a stupid action film, this is one of the best. It doesn't even try to be anything else, and I like that.Get this film, and save it for a night when you just want to be entertained.
