Humbersi The first must-see film of the year.
Neive Bellamy Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
Sameer Callahan It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
Cristal The movie really just wants to entertain people.
pmaheadquarters As far as found footage (which I watch a lot though frankly I'm beginning to wonder why I bother since there is so much garbage among the few decent films). The plot is somewhat familiar, three friends go on a road trip, one of the guys is in love with the other guys' girlfriend and blah blah. Then a "possessed camera" begins causing all kind of havoc.I didn't find it terrible though and gave it a few stars based on a somewhat original premise. As far as the dramatic reveal and ending which has caused much speculation, let me put it simply. Essentially the camera was possessed and anyone it filmed ended up dead. Simon even alludes to this being the case but hey, that's no reason to destroy it or anything. As far as the reveal, big deal at the end he rewinds the footage and we see his face in the mirror (for the first time) hence he too was damned having inadvertently filmed himself. Not something you have to go to Grad school to understand. Overall a pedestrian effort but I've seen much worse which isn't saying much for the found footage genre.
bringerofrain-54650 Finally got to see this film and I can understand what some people are saying, yes, it's a little slow, but have you seen Sicario??? SLOWWWWW as well and very little action. But the action that's there is pretty good. Same with SKEW. After the build-up and tension, there are moments that shock and surprise. The problem with people these days is that they don't want to THINK. God forbid a movie doesn't spoon-feed you the answers and if you have to do a little critical thinking to figure things out. That's what I like about SKEW. It is unassuming and subtle. It works and I'm happy to say that I almost guessed the ending and when it happened, I was giddy with shock at the horrible idea of what it all meant. If you want lots of guts and gratuitous violence, go somewhere else, but if you're willing to sink into a movie and use your brain a little, then you will have lots to contemplate with SKEW.
krismerrett I don't think it matters how interesting the idea of the movie was, if the movie itself didn't manage to bring across any sort of energy or drama to the storytelling. People are giving this tremendous reviews. For me, it was a lot of circular conversations with really annoying people. I think the filming of all the cheesy tourist attractions was meant to be ironic, but since it involved me actually having to see the biggest viking head, fork, pot, dish, chair, and knife it loses all irony points and becomes a pretty good indicator of the rest of the movie. The horror element was poorly constructed. I get the idea behind the film, but they don't explore it very well. The ending is deliberately vague to give some interest that the other 85 minutes lack.I can't even make this review interesting. It was a lacklustre, self-indulgent annoying little feature without any sort of scare to make up for the boring dialogue and travel montages that take up the majority of the feature.
Cary Macleod I began watching this and was quickly bored with footage of nothing and dialogue without content.I then began fast forwarding looking for when something happens, I would often stop realize it was just people talking about nothing or footage of a picnic table. I kept moving on and I watched the parts that moved the story along. It took me at the most 15 minutes to get through the movie. Perhaps those are the parts that the horror websites were praising. If you like watching people talk then you might like this. If you like horror movies where things happen and the heroes take action and there is some degree of suspense the AVOID WATCHING THIS.I saw some references in other reviews about how this was not a found footage film. But there is not description for movies shot using one or more cameras to give the feeling that the events happen in real time. Or real time that has been edited together. Found footage has become a genre title to identify how it was shot. Not just video tape that was found and everyone in it dies.I'd like to see a found footage style movie where the hero defeats the evil force in an exciting climax. Like Alien but with Signourey Weaver carrying a video camera and the ship equipped with cameras in all the locations.Thank you
