Nonureva Really Surprised!
Mischa Redfern I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.
Nicole I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
Freeman This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
HpyCmpr155 Okay....I started watching this thinking it was going to be a remake of a J-horror movie like the Grudge or the Ring or Shutter. Then I said wait...what is all this Italian stuff?? Something isn't right here. My first clue that this was going to bad AWFUL was when this group of "students" (who all happen to look like they are about 30 years old)are traveling through the barren desert on a "holiday". LO and behold...a camera is stolen (but the girl carrying it in her shoulder bag doesn't notice that it is gone until several miles later when they arrive at a village...duh) and she just happens to find a "camera shop"...yeah right.... And she buys a camera that spits out Polaroids. Then along their way they get to the edge of the desert, park their fully stocked, fully, gassed up, fully functioning Land Rover to hike on a well marked trail carrying backpacks with minimal supplies into a forest complete with streams, woods, chirping birds, deer and (gasp)meet a mysterious nomadic hunter who just happens to speak perfect English. Only to get hopelessly lost after 5 minutes. The plot while thin. had possibilities. In this movie it is just a joke. The acting is world-class awful and the only good thing the movie had going for it was a very nice Land Rover and the spectacular scenery. If you like AWFUL movies,,,this one may be your cup of tea and you may SMILE while you're watching it.
daletheminoltaman I liked this movie a lot. It had a unique filming location, unique actors (one of the guys was a dork though, you will know when you watch it lol) and a unique plot. I especially liked the ending. It is an overall very entertaining movie. It sort of has the feeling of an 80's Italian horror movie. Not the same cookie cutter movies that all seem to be the rage lately. I am not sure why this film does not have a higher rating, it is much better than many of the 6 and 7 start rated IMDb horror movies, I suspect that directors and actors are rating up their trash movies so people will watch them. Give the movie a chance. I think most horror fans out there will enjoy it. No it is not a work of art but yes it is very entertaining and "interesting".
Tony Heck "Take lots of pictures of your friends, what is a great moment if you can't prove that you had it?" A group of friends on vacation lose their camera. They meet a nice dealer (Assante) who give them a great deal on an old Polaroid camera. After the friends begin to wind up dead they wonder if the camera is the cause. I will start by saying that this was better then I expected. That said this is also nothing that hasn't been done before. Group of kids...evil guy...group gets killed off...yada yada yada. Much like a "Final Destination" type movie where you know who will die next and you just wait for it to happen. The best part of the movie hands down is the last 2 minutes, an average movie with a sweet ending. Overall, this plot has been done 1,000 times, but this time a camera is involved. This version is not that bad though. I give it a B-.Would I watch again? - Not this one, but next month I'm sure another version will some out.
slay7930 Recently I have been back to my hometown in Italy for a short vacation and just yesterday I decided to hit the cinema to watch this Italian production called "Smile", looking forward for some healthy summer thrills over my back (moreover yesterday I was the only spectator in the dark room to watch it so it could be really creepy!)As an hardcore horror fan, I'm always hopeful to see the "reborn" of Italian horror considering that in the past several of our directors delivered to the world nice pieces of horror and, though I was not particularly amazed by Smile trailer, I decided to give it a chance. The chance started to break down after the first 10-15 minutes and the situation worsened until the end of the movie. How to describe "Smile"? I would say it's a mixture of poor ideas (most of them already seen in other movies with a much better production), stupid dialogs and situations, even poorer "special effects" (if there are any...) and silly acting (sometimes I have the feeling the actors don't believe that much in what they are doing).Anything to save? A few. The location, shot in Morocco, was potentially good and attractive, plus the actor Armand Assante was the only one who, with his few seconds presence, gave to this movie a bit of "horror feeling".I give to this movie 2 instead of 1 because I appreciate the effort that, anyway, has been done to create a horror genre made in Italy but unfortunately there is still a lot of hard work to do to guarantee the audience with a more satisfying vision.
