This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

American Mission is your typical crazed slice of all-action spectacle from the one and only Godfrey Ho. The plot makes little sense but this appears to be one of his 'proper' productions rather than a cut-and-paste hack job. The film was produced in Hong Kong but shot in the Philippines by the look of it. A number of Western actors play the members of a hit squad sent to take down a criminal gang, and what follows involves endless shoot-outs, slow motion, and repetitive action. There's not quite as much unintentionally funny material here as in something like NINJA TERMINATOR or SCORPION THUNDERBOLT and at times you wish for the presence of a Richard Harrison or Bruce Baron to make you laugh. Still, you could do worse. It's hardly high art, but then you expect nothing more from Godfrey Ho.
