Terrible acting, screenplay and direction.

I was totally surprised at how great this film. You could feel your paranoia rise as the film went on and as you gradually learned the details of the real situation.

The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.

One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.

If you are one from the people who prefer films that are original and make you think from the moment you leave the theater till you go to sleep and you won't , this is certainly the movie you'r looking for. Christopher Denham and Nicole Vicius are a perfect portray. A couple attempting to infiltrate and expose a cult led by Brit Marling's Maggie but find themselves in too deep.
I liked the atmosphere the movie left me, Brit Marling always in most of her movies she leaves me amazed, she's a perfect in movies like this.
I needed more of this it's only 1H30M, i just needed more of this beautiful portrait.

This film is about a strange an intriguing young woman who claims to be from the future. She lives in a basement which she never leaves, claiming that her immune system cannot handle the present environment. She develops a small following of individuals who come to see her, some under false pretenses. Some want to learn how to prepare themselves for the future and what to expect, while others are skeptics wanting to expose her.At first we get the feeling that she is a scam artist who is not what she claims to be, especially after a particularly tense and hilarious scene featuring the wonderful Cranberries song "Dreams." But then, as events unfold, we're not so sure of anything anymore. We are at first skeptics, like the characters in the film, and then we're intrigued, just as they are. It's an interactive experience.Additionally, I love that the film is both character-driven and plot-driven. I typically enjoy character-driven films for the mere fact that the plot-driven films tend to nearly always forego proper character development. But I still love a good story. This film has both! Just like the storyline, the characters are complex and original, their motivations never quite clear but always believable. And to top it off, Sound of My Voice is extremely well-acted in addition to being well-written. It's a wonderful experience that's not quite like any other film I've encountered. The director and his writing partner, who starred in the lead role, must be called geniuses for coming up with this masterful work of art that is so delicately and expertly crafted. The pace of the film is perfect and the constant intensity builds and builds all the way up until the magnificent, powerful ending.A lot of thought and effort undoubtedly went into the creation of this film. But sometimes thought and effort aren't enough. Filmmaking is a risky and precarious business, as intangible factors and chance can keep a film from being as great as it could be, but in the case of Sound of My Voice, it was too good an idea for any of that to hold it back from greatness. It is a truly great independent film, and at 85 minutes it's not a minute too long. The only downside is that I didn't want it to end!

Independent journalists Peter Aitken (Christopher Denham) and Lorna Michaelson (Nicole Vicius) decide to infiltrate a mysterious cult led by charismatic Maggie (Brit Marling) with questionable claims. There are some great inside views of a cult. It's both eerie and gut wrenching. But the biggest revelation has to be Brit Marling. She really inhabits the role. If this movie starts and ends with Maggie, then I may give it a better rating. The two leads are just not up to the task. They are little more than extras. While I understand the limits of an indie, I can't give them a break for the lack of acting talent other than Brit Marling.

As for the Film itself it is not great. Very slow and kinda boring. Reading other reviews of this film there seems to be a lot or in most cases too much thought put into the ending. ******Spoilers and my own take on the films ending coming up so turn back now if you have not watched it *******OK so here it goes. This is what the film is about for me. It is a pretty simple take and what i thought of straight away as i watched the film. There is no time travel nonsense. Maggie is a nut job. Wanted by the law and on the run. She set all of this up to kidnap and get her daughter back. Yes i think abigail was her daughter. Abigail's parents got divorced and the dad got custody. The reason how abigail knew the handshake is cause maggie her mother taught it to her when she was younger. Maybe her dad still uses it with her. we don't know. Abigail cant remember her moms face cause she was too young. . Thats it film was rubbish.
