Leofwine_draca Somehow, somewhere, somebody must have thought there was still money to be made out of the SPECIES franchise, which is why this second sequel to the first film appeared. All these films have been B-movies and SPECIES III is no different, but what is perhaps most surprising is that this one manages to be just as entertaining as the first film – even though it's clearly been made on a much lower budget and without any famous faces.After a stalled opening sequence, boasting a Natasha Henstridge cameo and some unconvincing FX work, we're introduced to our two leads, a college professor and his bright student. The professor is played by Robert Knepper, no stranger to B-movies, and he does a pretty good job playing the usual dedicated-to-the-point-of-being-obsessed scientist role. Better still is Robin Dunne as the college kid lead; Dunne is better than the material on offer here, and to be honest he was the main reason I kept on watching.With Henstridge out of the picture, Sunny Mabrey takes over the killer alien role, although she's less violent and more sensual than the Henstridge model. Mabray is no actress, but then Henstridge wasn't either, and at least she isn't shy in the nudity stakes, so there's some continuity there. Sadly, the worst thing is the script, which has long slow stretches of nothing much happening and then rushes the action at the climax. Sometimes the main characters just disappear for ages and we're saddled with side characters who don't really count for much. Christopher Neame, forever remembered as Johnny Alucard in Dracula A.D. 1972, pops up as a stuffy officious type who gets messily offed.There are a couple of good gore sequences, including my favourite moment which has a human/alien hybrid literally dissolving into tentacled mush, but the CGI-ridden climax is laughable rather than effective and somewhat reminiscent of TERMINATOR 3. This time around, the female alien is somebody in a suit, and they look just like that – a person in a suit. There's a funny scene in which a security guard is split in half, though, along with a retread of that 'tongue' death from the first film.

Ryki Bloom Now, this is a movie where the horror factor becomes friendly. Species was a great start for a wonderful franchise. Species provided a horrific sexual sensation in the crowd. Species II followed the first movie's path but ended badly. But, still, it had the horror factor set in place. The Species Franchise could of been so much better if the 2nd installment was never created. Now, back to the juicy Species III. Species III again turned the franchise friendly and cutsie. No, not literally, but it doesn't provide the viewers with enough gore and sex scenes. The plot had holes the size of basketballs - everything was horrible. BUT... Considering that the franchise was ruined in Species II, Species III is my favorite thus far(I mean sequel, Species will remain the best and far-most perfect). It's a bit better than Species II and follows the crappy plot line(which, most sequels are suppose to) of the Franchise unlike Species IV.This franchise can be made better; after all, everyone wants to see Natasha naked again...so... why-not remake Species II and III? Haha, wouldn't everyone love that.

unbrokenmetal Another sequel, Natasha Henstridge only with a short guest appearance, and with a much lower budget = direct to video? Not a good premise to start with, but "Species III" actually is better than "Species II". Instead of outer space or a huge base/lab, the setting simply is a professor's house in the woods, where students help with his experiments. Obviously aiming at a younger audience, these young actors fortunately don't make it a typical silly teen horror flick, though - instead they prove that interesting characters are not a budget related thing. "Species III" is less concerned with killings, but a bit more with biology again. Insofar it is closer to part 1 than part 2 of the series had been. After the first half moves a bit slow sometimes, introducing Sara as the newly created alien in human shape, the second half contains more action when other alien clones start fighting Sara. Sara is played by Sunny Mabrey, a pretty model type of blonde who unfortunately is not much of an actress. Amelia Cooke who plays another alien has more screen presence and steals the show as soon as Sunny looks the other way. I voted 8/5/6/7 for the 4 parts of the series.

Boba_Fett1138 This movie can be divided in different parts. It's first halve Dr. Abbot's 'brilliant' research, while its second halve is more about Dean and its action and science-fiction elements. Not that either halve of the movie impresses much though. Besides, the fact that the two halves of the movie differ so much from each other and don't quite connect well enough, don't make the movie any better.It's the second sequel in the Species-series and even though they have learned from their mistakes from the previous Species sequel, it still isn't a better movie. The alien is a female again and the movie features less of Natasha Henstridge, who added very little to the previous sequel. On the other hand it's lacking the characters and certainly the fine actors of the previous 2 Species movies.The acting is really one of the biggest problems of this movie. It's simply below par and besides most actors seem to be miscast in their roles. Sunny Mabrey is a boring alien, who certainly isn't being seductive enough, even though that's basically the only point of her entire character.Its story is also quite poor. It's a quite ridicules one that makes less and less sense, the more you start to think about it. I mean why would a doctor/school teacher put himself in so much danger by abducting an alien from the military, just so he can do his own private research on her, in order to be able to breed a new super-race that's immune of all deceases. He also drags in one of his students. Sounds like a real wacko but his character is yet a serious one. And we are supposed to care for this character? All other characters are not much better or more interesting really.The movie as a whole is not just that interesting to watch, since it's very little special, that adds nothing new to the genre or the Species movie-series. There even is a part four. Really makes you wonder why though.The movie is not bad looking and it doesn't feature some good effects and stuff like that but it's nothing that we haven't already seen before in any of the other previous Species movies.
