Borgarkeri
A bit overrated, but still an amazing film

It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.

The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

This movie had the production values of a 1970s Doctor Who episode. The acting and special effects are what you would expect of a low budget film, but really, couldn't they have tried a bit harder? The narration at the beginning gave some background that's necessary to understand the story but uses too much stock footage of real-life space missions and ships. Couldn't they have just started us off in the near future and described what happened next? Without giving too much away the story sort of ends at the beginning of a crisis. This isn't a TV series where a cliffhanger makes us want to tune in next week to see what happens. The plot was like a Star Trek episode in the middle of a Star Trek episode, and ending with the aforementioned Star Trek episode. Given the vast storytelling range covered by Star Trek this is somewhat excusable I guess. Overall, this movie doesn't have much to recommend it unless you want to know how NOT to do things in your own low-budget production.

I believe the final words of the movie said it all: Lee(our Sulu friend) "I didn't think it could get any worse"... Captain:"It just did".... I literally had to take a crap during this movie and I wish I had stayed in the bathroom!Watch this movie if you want to rid yourself of 115 min of your life...The best for me though was when the ship was apparently hit by some cosmic force while speeding through the universe at the speed of light, a Klingon type who was put in jail for destroying a washer, which seems to be a closet painted green, bangs around the walls as if there really was some type of explosion. He failed miserably.... As did the acting in the whole movie but this guy randomly shows up screaming and banging against the walls of a hallway. You must see this to believe it.

I rented this from Red Box. When I pulled the disc out of the case, I noticed the disc was super scratched on one side towards the edge. I wondered how it could get like that and still be in service. Then I put the disc and and saw. No one could possibly get far enough into the movie to hit the bad spot on the DVD.The movie opens with a 3 minute history lesson that seems like 3 hours. This is followed by a fight scene between 2 guys in an alley that goes on too long. Followed by an endless succession of people walking through weak sets talking about nothing vital.Horrible.

How can a movie that clocks in at about 70 minutes without the closing credits seem so long? I literally fell asleep halfway through it, so envy me. The special effects would have been adequate if the software had been running on a modern computer, but the one they used clearly couldn't handle even the 1980's era graphics (think Babylon 5) without making the frames jerky and the images thin. As for the acting: one of the female leads (the Doctor) is good enough to play an extra in a serious movie. So is the secondary male lead, but unfortunately he is playing a Cyborg, with a costume apparently assembled from an electronics recycling facility in the former USSR, and sporting a Fabio hair "style," so it's very difficult to take him seriously. The other actors are, well, there, mostly, on the set, saying their lines. I slept through the main plot, but please, don't fill me in.I want my $1.07 back from Redbox.
