While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

It is a feel good movie with excellent background score. The story unfolds smoothly, and one can relate with most of the characters, which are very vibrant and vulnerable. Scenes and music makes up for the lack of dialogues at crucial junctures. It is successful in sketching web of multiple relationships with the help of 1 family.

Do you want a movie that makes you laugh and makes you cry? Do you want a movie where you can feel connected to every character because of everyday life trials? Basically, do you want to fall in love with a movie? If you do, watch this one because it will make you feel all sorts of feelings. From the first few scenes I knew this movie was different and I was hoping it was different in a good way. Never before have I seen a movie that took you on an effortless journey with so many main characters that were interconnected and made you smile, laugh, cry, and so many emotions in between. While this movie took place over a time span I felt that, as a viewer, we missed nothing of importance in the characters lives. The script for this movie was one that I really fell in love with more and more as we got to know each character. The wording was so poetic yet so simple at the same time. Each actor/actress portrayed each character with the right amount of dignity and shamefulness depending on the scene and each one of them allowed their character to grow. This is a movie I would definitely re-watch so I can learn more about each character and see the drastic changes from beginning to end. Not only that but I believe every viewer could find some way to relate to these magnificent characters.

I imagine those were the words the director used to describe what kind of movie he wanted to make to his producers.I know this is a film for teenagers, but the problem is its just so annoying. The story centres on the lives of one white middle class American family and their first world problems in a rose tinted two dimensional universe. It claims to be a coming of age story, based on love, but in reality its a slightly histrionic adolescent fantasy. Which is actually a regular formula for this director, in fact I may just as well cut and paste this review onto everything else he's done and probably will do (tho I think this is where I get off). As a film for teenagers it is OK, and I can look past most of the crap. Sometimes its actually funny, but rarely. What really annoyed me however was that the film pretends, and what's worse may even actually believe, that it has some depth of meaning, and that is nothing short of delusional.Luckily though Boone manages to secure some pretty good actors so the performances are convincing (although the script is not), and his technical ability to actually film is fine, though certainly not interesting. Now, if I've taken anything from this films pseudo morals and all those charming good looking kids with their fashionable heartbreak and Hollywood smiles, besides irritation, its that you gotta end on a positive note cos life is about living and loving right? So here goes...this movie sucks!

There won't be any fireworks in the story to catch your attention, but it's a great story written for flawed people that can love, divorce, hurt others or themselves, try to overcome difficulties with rational or irrational ways and at the end find the correct path in life. I loved the movie, I understood and sympathized with the characters. All the actors were great and pretty humane, with Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Connely starring with their down-to earth performance and Lily Collin captivating as the beautiful girl who needed to be saved. What I liked the most is that the movie is emotional but not heartbreaking and that you could have met Borgen's family just round the block.
