Daninger very weak, unfortunately
Cubussoli Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
Hulkeasexo it is the rare 'crazy' movie that actually has something to say.
Nicole I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
MartinHafer When many folks think about Italian movies, they think of the so-called 'Spaghetti Westerns'. However, many don't realize that the Italians made many other films in English--movies about a wide variety of topics (not just westerns or Hercules pictures). A great example is Sergio Corbucci's "Super Fuzz". While Corbucci was famous for his westerns (such as "Django" and "The Great Silence"), by 1980 he was directing many other sorts of films--including this strange cop comedy. The film finds a cop, Speed (Terence Hill) hit by a rocket containing 'red plutonium'. However, instead of instantly killing him it gives him super powers--such as ESP, telekinesis and mind control! Not surprisingly, this makes him an amazing cop--but the powers strangely come and go. Why? See this incredibly silly film to find out for yourself. Generally, I think this film would work best for kids, as it has a silly almost Disney of the 1970s style. It certainly is NOT demanding entertainment and much of it is amazingly stupid. But, interestingly, it is also rather likable if you let yourself go and laugh at it for what it is. It ain't meant as high art or the next Oscar-winner--just a silly, low-budget comedy with some very broad humor (such as the sobriety test scene and the last 15 minutes) and a theme song by The Oceans that is very catchy but is played so often that you almost become psychotic after hearing it so many times!I noticed that some called it a 'guilty pleasure' and 'agreeable nonsense'. I heartily agree!
Scott LeBrun "Trinity" film series star Mario Girotti (a.k.a. Terence Hill) headlines this amiable superhero parody which should make for decent family viewing. The jokes come fairly fast, and the performances are appropriately hammy. Ultimately, it's kind of a mixed bag; sometimes it's funny and engaging, sometimes it's silly and tiresome. But its upbeat spirit does make it rather hard to resist. It's certainly an interesting credit for the director, Sergio Corbucci, who was better known for Westerns such as "Django" and "The Great Silence". Filmed on location in Miami, it features a loud and bouncy pop score with a theme song that is catchy at first but is eventually used too much.Hill plays Dave Speed, a rookie cop partnered with weary veteran Sgt. Willy Dunlop (Ernest Borgnine). While on an assignment, Dave is showered with red dust from an atomic explosion, and thereafter acquires superpowers. He's now able to detect crime from a distance, sense elephants coming around a street corner, and catch bullets in his teeth. All of which actually kind of annoys old Willy, not to mention his sweet niece Evelyn (gorgeous Julie Gordon). But Daves' abilities come in handy when he tries to bust the counterfeiting ring run by volatile mobster Tony Torpedo (Marc Lawrence). There are some good gags in this thing, although it does wear out its welcome in the end. Still, the actors make it worth watching. Joanne Dru also stars as actress Rosy Labouche; Lee Sandman plays police chief McEnroy and put upon thug Paradise Alley is portrayed by Salvatore Borghese. Hill is very likable throughout and Borgnine is quite lively. To add to the humour, Dave finds that whenever he sees the colour red, he temporarily loses his powers. The effects are not particularly special but in something like this, that's not really much of an issue.Fans of the "Naked Gun" and "Police Academy" series might find this one to their liking.Six out of 10.
view_and_review The last time I saw Super Fuzz had to be about 15 years ago. That was probably the 50th time I had seen it. Even though it has been a while since I've seen Super Fuzz, I remember that it was a movie I was fond of and probably will always be fond of. It was about a police officer that acquired super powers by witnessing a nuclear explosion. Sure, it wasn't that original and it was a bit comic bookish, but that is not what made the movie. What made the movie is what he did with his new found super powers that he lost whenever he saw the color red. Oh this movie was hilarious. He did one silly thing after another with his powers all the while he annoyed the heck out of his partner. This was an excellent family movie that was just plain funny. The actors chosen for the main characters were a perfect fit and the story just flowed. I give Super Fuzz high marks, it is a must see.
CelluloidRehab What can we expect from this Italian exploitation movie ? Firstly, a La Bionda disco intro complete with neon colored, heavily pixelated scenes from the movie to start with. Dave, an ex-cop, is in the midst of his 4th death penalty attempt. They have tried to gas, hang and shoot him. We then go into a flashback to how Dave is in his current predicament.Dave Speed (Terence Hill, who kind of looks like a younger, shorter version of Franco Nero) is a freshly graduated cadet on his first assignment. This happens to be a Hulk-like origin story, where Dave gets caught in some sort of "test". Apparently the detonation of red plutonium occurs on Indian Reservatations. Thats how witty keeps us down. Everyone assumes Dave is dead and his superior ,Sgt. Willy Dunlop, (played by the ever prolific Ernest Borgnine) is demoted to traffic cop because of it. Dunlop is old (should have been retired years ago), overweight, very excitable, tends to yell and does not easily believe his own senses. Borgnine's acting ability tends to run the gamut from horribly bad to good. His performance as Willy Dunlop is painful. There should be some rules about using Borgnine as a torture device. It should be outlawed. It gets even worse when Borgnine gets cheerfully chipper.Apparently the test/accident has bestowed Dave with what appears to be limitless powers. Powers such as : invulnerability telekinesis "spider sense" like intuition x-ray vision water walking faster than a speeding carwalk on wallsfixing horse racespool sharkingracketeeringsuperior lung capacityhypnotic suggestion/mind controlWeaknesses : the color red.He uses his newly found powers to solve crimes, to the surprise and confusion of Sgt. Dunlop. Dunlop seems to like the results of all this success, but doesn't like the explanation of why and how. Dave sets his sights on organized crime run by Torpedo (played by perennial tough guy, Marc Lawrence). Torpedo is running a counterfeit money operation, with Dunlop's favorite starlet, Rosy Labouche. Torpedo tries and frames Dave for the death of Borgnine. That is the reason he's on death row.Exploitation is the name of this movie, however, it isn't really done well. It is quite campy, in a Saturday morning cartoon kind of way. It is like watching a bad parody/comedy of the superhero genre (like an Italian version of Mystery Men). This movie is quite silly at times. Suspension of disbelief does not accurately portray the amount of silliness. This movie is definitely not for the faint of heart or the newly indoctrinated to the Italian exploitation genre. Also, do not consume this movie alone. If you must watch alone, get Jack Daniels to watch with you.
