AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Phillida Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
bigboylover83 how gay are the 3 muggers in this movie? the tall one! i think his name is Robert! or big Bobbie as he's known to the boys. I mean come on he fights like a big lady boy, he could wrestle with me in my bed any day. they don't call me big boy lover for nothing you know. well thats all im gonna write i'm gonna go drool over my mugger man. im sure I've seen him in other man movies if you know what i mean lol. any way enough of me drooling over these gay muggers. i love his Scottish accent. any way the movie is about a young guy from greenock whos mummy is in jail and due for release soon. he buys a caravan, with drug money. it gets burned down and well i could tell you a lot more but i don't want to spoil the movie for everyone.
widescreenguy a junkie mother in prison, a father who deals in heroin, and a 16 yr old who steals the heroin so he can sell it instead.'gritty' say the reviews. and about as entertaining as a piece of gravel in your shoe.I was hoping for a bit of comic relief, ie the 60s brand of Benny Hill type of bawdy humour or some political satire but none were forthcoming. just grime and crime from the title sequence to the closing credits.thank gawd for free movies at the library, a measly dollar to rent this crud would be too much.something has happened to British film makers, it started way back with kubrick's clockwork orange and has continued to deteriorate.blech. the good news is this one cured me of curiosity then next time some low class shenanigans are portrayed. enough already. where can you get decent movie entertainment today? indie products somehow think the shock value adds value to their product. about as much as shock therapy.I'm usually forgiving in my reviews but there is very little to praise in this hour and a half of faux reality. it might be reality for some 16 year olds in Britain but I have no interest if that's what they do with their day. how in blazes do people like this expect to MAKE SOMETHING of their lives? not by following the habits portrayed in this knock off.
slake09 Another excellent tale of gritty Glasgow from Ken Loach, well told from the eyes of a 16 year old boy trying to get another chance for his imprisoned and heroin addicted mother. The boy, Liam, makes one wrong choice after another although you can hardly blame him. His choices are limited, his environment unfriendly, the role models in his life are bad ones. There isn't a lot of room for him to maneuver, but he does the best he can.You can pretty much see where he is going to end up before you're too far into the film, but that doesn't make the story any less fascinating. You keep hoping he's going to transcend his background and somehow come out on top, even though you know he won't.Fine acting and production, there is nothing about the movie that strikes a false note. It flows well from the first minute to the last.
nefelidimo An awful, depressing movie about a 15 year old kid. He has a mother in jail, a stepfather and grandfather who beat him and call him a c***, a*******, and d******* among other things. The kid (Liam), decides to get his mother a caravan (trailer home) as a surprise when she gets out of jail for an unknown crime. In order to get the money, he sells cocaine with his "best friend". However, his revengeful friend burns down the caravan after Liam becomes a pawn to a powerful drug lord. I stopped watching at the part when Liam's "best friend" begins to commit suicide because Liam isn't "man enough" to murder him. All the characters spoke in a Scottish accent, because that was where the movie was set. The accent didn't bother me, however, trying to decipher what was going on with all the "f****** c****!" in the dialogue was torture if you didn't have subtitles. I heard more cuss words in that movie than I have in my entire life.Don't waste your time. It's depressing and one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time.
