Taraparain
Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

After being humiliated and left for dead, a lonely high-school girl manages to return to life as a bloodthirsty vixen seeking revenge against her tormentors and forces a sympathetic ally to stop her rampage.Overall, this one turned out okay despite its series of flaws. One of the better elements to this one is the rather fun and twisted revenge scenarios that play out in here that are quite exciting. The first one in the auditorium where the dismembered victim broadcasts the incident to the whole school is entirely cruel and works based on the fine set-up in the booth beforehand, the attack at the home is quite chilling with it's tense stalking, suspenseful brawling and rather blood action, and the finale in the hospital has plenty of exciting action and suspenseful chasing that goes on for an extended period of time here so this one really has a lot of rather enjoyable elements that makes for an overall fast-paced effort. That also manages to work well with the rather gory deaths here which gives a rather bloody streak throughout here with the gruesome deaths on display, and that mixes with the few suspenseful flashbacks to give this one it's good points that does overcome it's few flaws. One of the bigger issues here is that this one really does nothing new or original with it's central storyline about the geeky, awkward woman coming back to life as a stone-cold fox. It's obvious she would've been all along because the only transformation here is the application of make-up and a different hairstyle which makes all the difference, much less the change in attire which is highly suspect all around. That the resurrection doesn't play much into the film is another issue, given a cursory glance from the gang and is take quite lightly which is a little off-putting considering the severity of what happened. The last part that really sticks out here is the events of the party scene, which are ghastly homophobic and completely uncalled for beyond being rather boring and unneeded to advance the plot as it is here with those other issues. Otherwise, this one was quite fun.Rated R: Graphic Language and Graphic Violence.

Unattractive occult enthusiast Jenna Dewan (as Tamara Riley) desperately wants to play hide the eraser with her handsome high school English teacher Matthew Marsden (as Bill Natolly). Happy with his beautiful wife, Mr. Marsden pushes Ms. Dewan away when she tries to kiss him, after class. The other kids in school tease Dewan and decide to prank her. Knowing about her interest in teacher Marsden, they set up a fake rendezvous with him, ordering Dewan to get undressed and wait for her hunky lover. They secretly videotape her stripping down to a black bikini. After some taunting, Dewan appears to accidentally hit her head and die...But, she may not really be dead...This highly derivative horror story gets off to a poor start by introducing the incredibly sexy Dewan in a fantasy sequence. Then, we're supposed to think she's plain and unattractive. Moreover, she and the others look too old to be in high school. On a deeper level, it's odd that such a powerful young woman (as we later see) is unable to even brush her hair. But, everyone tries their best to impersonate the characters. Director Jeremy Haft and photographer Scott Kevan show skill, albeit wasted. The sex scenes are limp, with the camera shooting up Dewan's skirt a highlight. The gore scenes are a bit nervy, with the tongue slicing a highlight.**** Tamara (10/23/05) Jeremy Haft ~ Jenna Dewan, Matthew Marsden, Chad Faust, Katie Stuart

Sure, I only watched this because I have a friend who has a daughter named Tamara. Well, if she aspires to grow up being a sexy witch, then this is the movie for her. A typical school of cool kids, that are not cool in the slightest, set out to play a prank on the socially inept shy girl, Tamara (Jenna Dewan-Tatum). But unbeknownst to them, she also practices witchcraft. Well, when they accidentally kill her and bury her in the woods, she comes back to life to exact her revenge. (Bonus points for the amusement of her walking into class the next day) So she goes about this by basically controlling the minds of the kids to perform her bidding's. I'll leave it at they are rather tame methods, so gore-movie hounds will not be all too excited. Granted her powers of suggestion do lead to one of the more amusing things in the movie, but I'll leave that for you to see. So of course there is her love interest, which is her teacher (Matthew Marsden) and they are bound by a spell to be together forever. In a well paced 90 minute film, we get to "forever" in just the right duration with a stupid ass ending that really distracts from the fun the rest of the movie was. The acting was pretty bad, but I really don't think they were shooting for any Oscars here. Nice little flick if you catch it on netflix or redbox, beyond that, I wouldn't go out of my way for it. 4.7/10

A shy and somewhat homely high school girl named "Tamara Riley" (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) writes an article for her school newspaper concerning steroid use among some of the student body and some people affected by this revelation seek their revenge upon her. So they trick her into believing that her English teacher, "Bill Natolly" (Michael Marsden), who she has a crush on, is waiting for her in a hotel room. Once there they videotape her taking her clothes off and getting into bed. When she realizes she's been duped a struggle ensues and she is killed. But what the students who set her up don't realize is that she is a witch and has cast a spell upon herself which brings her back to life. Only this time she is neither shy nor homely. But she is very vengeful. At any rate, in my opinion this movie was surprisingly good. The acting was fine as was the script and the cinematography. One particular fault was the students generally looked older than what you would find in a typical high school. But that often happens with movies of this type so it isn't anything unusual. And while the plot was hardly novel the film did have several attractive women in Katie Stuart ("Chloe"), Melissa Marie Elias ("Keesha") and the aforementioned Jenna Dewan-Tatum. Worth a watch for those who like films of this type.
