Good start, but then it gets ruined

Did you people see the same film I saw?
Dirtylogy
It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

Piper (Elisabeth Harnois) is an art student new to Santa Cruz. She had a baby at 15 and gave her up for adoption. The new mother kept in contact for 2 years but has gone missing for the last 6 years. She believes that she has found her child in 8 year old Julia Miller. She gets a job in a sandwich shop. Trucker is the owner who is secretly in love with Zo who owns the crystal shop. Jen (Clea DuVall) is the computer nerd who has an internet relationship. Tish (Danneel Ackles) loves to manipulate man. Priestly (Jensen Ackles) is the punk cook who is secretly in love with Tish. Piper befriends Julia and her father Noah (Sean Patrick Flanery) but lies to them about her identity. These are very photogenic young actors. The comedy is pretty lame. The two guys in the grocery store are silly without being funny. To be fair, none of these actors have great comedic skills. The other problem is that the sandwich shop seems so fake. They don't have many customers which puts into question why Trucker needs 4 young people working for him. On the plus side, the characters' personal dramas are compelling and I do root for them.

The movie is about Piper moving to Santa Cruz under the impression she is to meet the daughter whom she adopted out as a baby covertly. She works part time in a sandwich shop which is the dynamic setting for our main cast who we can all easily know and love. Overall the movie is thoroughly enjoyable, and recommended for anyone who is in the mood for a 90s romcom.the movie has some believable and vulnerable scenes from Clea DuVall which bring an element of realism. Some twists and endearing moments portrayed by the lovely Elisabeth Harnois Some comedic moments by everyone, in particular Jensen Ackles, who steals the show with his quirky character. I do feel however, disappointed that to be seen as the "ideal good guy" he needed to change how he appeared. the ending is predictably tied up and has a great neat and sweet feel to it.

Damn you Supernatural and Dark Angel. You made me love Jensen Ackles, currently playing Dean Winchester on CW's Supernatural. I started to look into what other films you might be in. Just to see your type-casted lovable character. The total misunderstood sweetheart and loyal, bad boy. So you ended up playing the same character in Ten Inch Hero. I was happy even though you had a punk rock out cast look. What I hated was the movie. I wasn't expecting too much but the cast made it semi-promising and enjoyable.I was expecting something along the lines of Sex and Death 101. BUT NO! That could not happen. Even though I like Clea DuVall 's work in HBO's Carnivale, the movie Identity, among many other things
. and the guy from Boondocks Saint is in this film. Sean Patrick Flanery if you wonders what he's been in.. well this is one of them.(*huge side note, I watched Boondock Saints II All Saints Day, and it sucked. William Dafoe was only in one scene and it is an exact replica of the first.. Also Sean Patrick Flanery got all bloaty in the face and he looked like Edward Norton, in my humble opinion. Which isn't too awful of a comment.)Overall this film was trying to bring many stories together, with the common hold of all the people work at a sandwich shop. It had purpose in the beginning, but then it fell apart with it's focus on facts rather than good cinema.I felt no connection with the characters, although I could imagine how someone might feel in their situation, but it was just too hokey dory for my taste. Although it had its moments in a little bit of funny parts, you can just tell how great I feel about a movie when all I comment on are the actors and what distracted me from the screen.I do admit this movie does cater to others. But, at times I felt it was worth watching just to see Jensen Ackles in a Mohawk and in a kilt and buying tampons.

I don't know how, but this film inspired me to start drawing again and I am very grateful for that. It was simple with quite a normal story and a range of characters, which obviously doesn't sound very special, but after a stroke of comedy through the beginning to reel you in to the characters it really accentuated the insecurities of all these different people. This leads to a connection between them and with love they have for each other, as a family they've created, it really warms your heart. Everyone hopes for a family like this, with the closeness they have and the knowledge that, through your troubles, they will always be there to help you through.
