I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

The Abandoned, a title like that lures me to watch it. I should have read some reviews before even though most of the time I don't agree with the ratings on IMDb. This time I do agree. The story is just not good enough to make it special. And the ending is completely ridiculous. I was going to give it a five star rating if it was not for the end. The acting isn't great either. The dialogues are pretty basic. Besides an odd strange appearance every now and then there is not much creepy about this horror movie. The only special effects, if you can call them like that, are things that are a bit shaking or moving by itself. You have to show more than that if you want to make a good horror movie. A waste of time and money if you ask me.

I watch horror movies very often and honestly I got tired of the latest trend in horrors to be as bloody and gory as possible. If you want a great horror movie, with an intriguing story, superb acting and a nice ending with a twist, The Abandoned might be perfect for your late night watching. The scenery is spooky, there were some decent scares and I really liked Louisa Krause's performance. Jason Patric was good in his role, as expected, and there was a good chemistry between the two main actors. Sit back, relax and enjoy the movie and don't over-analyze it like some of the reviewers here. Overall, I was greatly entertained, and I hope I will see more from this director in the future.

I am a horror fan and in my opinion this movie was pretty original and suspenseful. Yes there were some clichés but the concept of the plot is something unique for the genre. It is about a young, troubled woman who is doing a night shift in an abandoned building, with her supervisor. And what should be a routine task, soon turns to be a living hell. There is a surprising twist at the end, but I will tell no more about the story, because I don't wanna write spoilers. The director did a great job and there were some decent scares. Jason Patric was solid, as expected, and Louisa Krause was very convincing in her role too, who was completely unknown to me before watching the movie. Overall I would recommend it to all the horror/thriller fans, it is not a masterpiece, but it is certainly worth the watch.

I wasn't expecting much from this movie; I personally enjoy making fun of low budget films. The script of this movie wasn't that good. It was very cliché and repetitive. The ending was very confusing, but emotional. What I am guessing is Clara is actually Streak. This all in Streak's mind since she has been in a coma for so long. Cooper is actually her father, who IS a night guard. She was in the institution because of her facial deformity, and she got out and into the coma because she drank the bad water, hence the young boy saying she was the only one to survive. In the scene with Streak hugging "Clara" and telling her it isn't her fault, it's about the water. She is saying to HERSELF that it isn't her fault she drank the water, that she had been neglected and she was desperate. That's why when Streak said she was going to leave, Clara died in the hospital. Clara was going to die. She was telling herself it wasn't her fault and it was okay to let go. Besides the script and the very common large fancy building cliché, it wasn't that bad.
