amiranda-39274 i discovered this awesome movie at an early age, i had already been watching The Batman TV show which is really awesome too, this movie takes place during the first 2 seasons, but this movie does not feel like just a long episode, it feels like it has the potential to be a great live action batman film! since you picked this movie, i assume you already know that Dracula is in this film, and this isn't some super villain pretending to be Dracula, it is actually the prince of darkness,of vampire lore, Bela Lugosi/Leslie nelson/Gary oldman Dracula! He is accidentally awoken by penguin who starts bleeding over his corpse, yes the minute you see that first drop of blood and Dracula eyes open, you know right away that this isn't any ordinary child friendly cartoon. Despite being in Gotham, they actually provide a believable reason why Dracula corpse is in Gotham, and his motivations seem simple enough...try to turn all of Gotham's population and very soon the world into an UN-dead army. And if a deadly joy buzzer wielding, insane Jamaican version of the joker isn't scary enough, Dracula actually turns him into a vampire. This leads to one of the most horrifying scenes ever, and one of most blood curdingly batman lines ever. Batman: a banks being robbed Alfred: I'm sure the police can handle it this time, Batman: its a blood bank. The vampire joker( that is so cool but terrifying to say!)is seen at the blood bank binge eating all blood in sight, and its not showing him from behind, its showing him dunking tons of blood into his mouth! ( its awesome!)and when batman starts fighting him, they accidentally cause it to start raining blood!!! Batman captures vampire joker, and bring him back to his cave ( nothing bad can happen there) and starts trying to find a cure for vampirism, meanwhile more and more people are being turned into vampires. Amazing enough batman does find the cure, they do make it look scientific and believable, and if there's anyone who could make a cure for vampirism, no doubt about, it would be the dark knight. Batman then goes to confront Dracula and his army of the UN-dead, the following confrontation has got to be the most bad ass moment ever! Batman single handily takes on a horde of vampires, injecting them each with the antidote, and kicking some major butt all the way. Finally the final confrontation begins between the dark knight vs the dark prince, their fight goes all the way back to the bat cave, batman gets beaten up, probably with a ton of broken bones, and is chased around by Dracula, while he rants, and then it turns out hes been luring Dracula to a good old fashioned view of the sun, this and a great one liner from batman leads to a very fitting and baddass death scene for Dracula. The characters are well written as they are in the show, this Bruce Wayne is way more happy and fun loving, but you know its just a mask, because batman is the real persona, and this is awesome depiction of him. This has got to be the best Dracula I've ever seen, despite having the cliché Transylvanian accent and clothing, i very much prefer it, it lets me know this is the same iconic Dracula from the movies. this plot has good dialogue, great atmosphere, the minute the sun goes down, you no longer feel hopeful that batman is prowling the streets, you feel actual terror for the evil lurking in the dark, the dread builds throughout the movie, batman is clearly outmatched, out-muscled, and outnumbered, ( i started wishing him to go ask for superman and the justice leagues help!) and there are definitely some nightmare inducing moments, but through the movie you come to realize how truly heroic and awesome batman really is, and it does leave you with a good feeling by the end. overall this is a great movie to watch on Halloween no matter what age you are ( i recommend you at least be 13 or older), also its a great batman movie in general, one of the best! i think some people just cant get past the name, but i assure you once you start watching this, you will be trapped in its cowl and its fangs.
kevinxirau This was a most unexpected twist to the series "The Batman." The series was dark, edgy, and had lots of new twists to the classic characters of the world of Batman. Then this film came around, pitting Batman against the original creature of the night. I remember reading a comic book of Batman vs Dracula, which has two sequels, that was definitely not meant for kids. This movie is right near the boundary of not being kid-friendly either and it's a warm welcome to the franchise.Plot: Joker and Penguin escape Arkham Asylum (big surprise). While Batman battles Joker, Penguin searches for treasure in a cemetery, accidentally awakening the one and only Dracula. With Penguin as his new hypnotized servant and countless people transformed into vampires, Dracula seems to be Batman's greatest challenge. With news reporter Vicky Vale and Joker caught in the middle, can Batman conquer the deadly Dracula and save his transformed victims? Its modern technology vs supernatural power as these dark knights battle it out for the fate of Gotham City. From start to finish, this movie is pretty darn impressive. I like how both Joker and Penguin play into all this chaos. Vicky Vale, in her first appearance in the series, remains ever so persistent and attractive, something neither Batman or Dracula can resist. Dracula is especially interesting. He has some of his classic features like being tall, dark, and mysterious while having nice twists to his character and his dialogue with Batman is loads of fun to watch. With great action, creepy moments, a nicely-written story, and surprising amounts of blood, this is arguably one of the greatest match-ups of all time. I give this movie a seven for entertainment and an extra point for not being too afraid of getting a little dark. So fly in and enjoy.
minamurray This review comes from a fan of Gothic vampire stories like Dracula, and someone who has sporadically enjoyed Batman in comic books but never cared about the film series - including Dark Knight. Batman VS Dracula: The Animated movie (2005) is refreshingly old-fashioned and successfully atmospheric story where Dracula has his Gothic style, including preference for eeriely beautiful graveyards. This is not some trashy upstart like vampires from cooler-than-thou garbage Blade - and to put it bluntly, the word "cool" makes me think sleazy bully who tortures fat nerds and sleeps in his own filth when drunk. One typical mistake - Dracula burns in sunlight, unnecessary twist added by movie makers in 1922 - is used in the film, but that does not affect the atmosphere, of course. Animated or not, this is one of the best vampire films of the decade, which has been full of trash.
garryhess Overall a really good flick. much better than dini's later efforts for Batman direct to video movies. First of all, Vicki Vale IS a redhead contrary to what the other user posted, she was turned blonde by Hollywood, but DC comics the original character was a redhead. Secondly Batman did use his head, he knows his strengths and he knows ho to goad his enemies into doing what he wants them too, Bruce put his body on the line to get Dracula into the position he needed him in, He had to go hand to hand again, to save Vicki and the citizens, also he had the sense to give Alfred his position so that he could ready that sun machine - it was strategy, just like chess sometimes you have to sacrifice valuable pieces for the ultimate victory. One thing i really liked is we finally (in this incarnation of batman) got to see the scientist behind the bat. I love the animation in this as well, the fight scenes are choreographed and animated superbly, it's still not as complex as Batman TAS overall - but if they keep doing DTV movies with more mature themes I think they will easily have some classics on their hands, this movie was fun a little corny, but all super-heroics are, but overall very fun to watch.
