GazerRise Fantastic!
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Sabah Hensley This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
leonblackwood Review: I wasn't a big fan of this film! The acting wasn't that great and the annoying spoilt brat that Jet Li was protecting, got on my nerves after a while. I honestly didn't understand why a girl whose being hunted by the mob, went shopping in the mall, days before she was about to give evidence. DUMB! Anyway, this Chinese Bodyguard type movie, took way to long to get going for me and the acting really wasn't that great. There's only one fight throughout the film, which isn't that much for a Jet Li movie, but there's plenty of running and shooting to try and keep the audience entertained. Personally, I think that there was too many annoying characters and I did lose interest after a while. Disappointing!Round-Up: I did have high expectations for this movie but I struggled to stay interested. I much prefer Jet Li in the more authentic oriental movies to the Americanized ones because he seems more natural and believable. I still have some more of his movies to go through, but so far I am enjoying this genre because it reminds me when I used to watch old Kung Fu movies on videotape. I do prefer the older Jackie Chan movies to some of the Jet Li ones but I still have quite a few of his movies to get through.I recommend this movie to people who are into their Jet Li movies about a bodyguard who has to protect a wealthy man's girlfriend who witnessed a murder and is about to give evidence against the mob. 3/10
david-sarkies This is the Hong Kong version of The Bodyguard. Hong Kong cinema seems to take existing American movies and rewrite them in a way that they should have been. This has been done with Witches of Eastwick, coming out as Erotic Ghost Story; Fast Times at Ridgemont High, coming out as Yesteryou, Yesterme, and Yesterday; and Die Hard, coming out as High Risk. In some cases they come out much better, as with High Risk, other times they are just ordinary, as with Bodyguard from Beijing.A school teacher, along with two others, witnesses the murder of an accountant. The other two are killed but the police manage to get to the teacher in time and protect her. The teacher's boyfriend is very rich and hires a professional bodyguard from China to protect her. It begins with the woman hating the bodyguard because he is invading her privacy and treating her like a prisoner, but this changes after he saves her life she falls in love with him.The interesting thing about this movie is that the bodyguard (Jet Lee) is not interested in a romance, and what makes this movie much better than the American counterpart, is that he does not change at the last minute and come an professes his love to her. This is one thing that makes a superb movie, and that is consistency of characters. Her character changes, namely because he has saved her life in a very obvious way.The Hong Kong tendency to go overboard is not that prevalent in this movie. This is somewhat more American as it tries to have a realistic plot. It is true that the plot is somewhat more realistic than an American movie, but it does fall down in scenes such as the shopping mall. There are a couple of characters which make the film interesting, and that is Fat Po and Billy. Fat Po is a police officer that is fat and addicted to gambling. Billy is the nephew of the school teacher and these two characters bounce off of each other quite effectively. Fat Po is an incompetent police officer that bumbles through life while Billy is an eager child who wants to look good in front of his peers. This movie is more suspenseful than High Risk. It is not really an action movie, though it has some reasonable scenes. Most of this time it is waiting for the enemy to attempt to kill the teacher because she is the witness. There and are some other suspenseful moments and the movie delivers it quite well.Bodyguard from Beijing is a rather average movie, but enjoyable if you like the Hong Kong cinema.
nauti_ger This is most commonly noted to be a HK version of 'THe bodyguard' by Kevin Costner, so generally the plot is the same, bodyguard protects rich missus. I think what makes this more entertaining has to be Jet Li himself, who I am a personal fan of. Here he exudes silent charm and charisma that makes his character very 'cooland aloof at the same time. In the first half of the show, Christy's character hates him, not surprisingly since he is such a pain in her a**. But later on we see the softer side of him when he begins to like Christy's character too. He's character is very shy and uncertain when it comes to dealing with romance, a far cry from the confident and arrogant nature when it comes to his job. Jet Li plays the contrasting natures of the character with ease, you almost feel quite tickled watching Christy's character flirt with him. Overall, not a brilliant show, plot not original at all, but with the entertaining supporting casts as well as Jet Li's presence, makes the show a highly enjoyable one.
backlash-1 Well it's nice to finally see Jet Li in a movie that's not martial art related. Playing a superb bodyguard trained in Red China, hired to protect a beautiful girl he's doing a fine job. The fighting sequences in this movie are among the best I've ever seen, shooting from the most impossible angles while jumping around like crazy to avoid his enemies. You gotta see this to believe it! I know there are a lot of Chinese action movies like this but if u want to see one, be sure it's this one!!!
