A different way of telling a story

This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

This was just a mess. Sounded really interesting so I decided to watch this. What a waste of time!!! The Actors: James Mardsen is properly playing his worst performance. No matter what happens his face always stays equal. This character should have felt strong emotions, but this is nothing. he seems to be randomly walking in the scenes without knowing what to do. Even while he is killing his wife or finding out his son is deaf-mute, it seems like nothing special is happening to the character. Cameron Diaz is trying to fill her flat character copy of a house wife with emotions and profundity but she fails in every scene. She always looks like she is acting and not like she IS part of the story. Frank Langella is written to be mysterious, frightening friendly and ice cold. Or he should be written like this. In reality he is doing nothing. He plays his role way too passive to be a real fright. The rest is not worth mentioning. The story is very confusing and not in a good way like Inception, Black Swan or Neon Demon. There is just no real sense behind this. I guess it should be a story about why humans don't deserve blessing by the gods. But the mysterious Mr. Steward is some kind of super human, reborn and made immortal by a lightning(!!!). And so he has super powers?! He leads a company of strange people which have no job than to stare at our couple. And they all bleed from the nose when they are doing anything. Some characters appear randomly, talk some deep stuff with the protagonists and then disappear randomly again. Like the scene with the Santa Clause. This was supposed to bring us answers but in the end we have even more questions. The box and the red button which are the title of this movie are just a small part of a very small story line which is kicked out at the beginning by this non sense story about gods, lightnings, the Nasa and the rest. The visuals are the only thing saving this movie from being a disaster. They are not good, but they are OK. And if you look at the story they are brilliant in comparison. Also the burning on the face of Mr Steward is well done. But that's it. So we have bad acting, a bad story, mediocre visuals. This movie has no idea what it is about, has no idea how to get to this idea and changes the main theme like 3 times. The director wanted way too much and failed in every way. The actors hired are simply too bad to save this screenplay. A movie that will disappear from my mind the next day. The only good thing I saw was the funny copy of a 80s home with this sweet wallpapers and I heard music which promised a more interesting and suspenseful story.

Browsing through my Netflix choices I noted a five star rated movie starring Cameron Diaz. The movie was The Box. The film deals with themes of mutilation, losing faculty discount on your child's education, choosing to kill a stranger for a measly million dollars, bleeding noses, actors staring straight ahead. I stopped the Netflix film halfway through because it was not five stars. I had to finish it the next night to find out if the film answered any of the improbable questions it raised. No. It just got worse. More dilemmas were piled on Cameron and her husband. Why? No explanation. Just more drivel. I noted that the star rating on Netflix had dropped to 3 and a half stars. So what have I learnt. Netflix puts out a movie. Starts it on a top rating and lets it fall. Rubbish movie, rubbish film grading policy!

The Box is built upon a great concept. The idea that a button could end a life and in return you receive 1million in cash. It seems like an offer that could come with one very obvious complication. But as Norma and Arthur Lewis find out, it comes with many. The film gripped me from the offset, as soon as we see a mysterious package delivered to the door for Norma to find you could tell their lives were going to change. The film explores the greed of humanity although we never see that from our two protagonists. It also explores how far people will go to save someone they love but also how disposable a life can be when you don't know the person.Perhaps the thing that impressed me most about the film was the way things come full circle, the events we see at the beginning of the film make sense at the end. We aren't left with unanswered questions and the film wraps up beautifully. but that's not to say the ending is the happiest i've ever seenOverall i'd highly recommend this film to anyone who likes mystery and science fiction, I give this film a 7/10.

This was a refreshing movie. A cognitive movie. A movie that puzzles you and demands attention. A movie that grabs you and does not let go until the last second. All of the above is true if you have a brain that does not require a flashing screen to keep your attention. if you have an attention span of 3 seconds or less then you should give this movie a miss. Some reviewers have complained that there are many unanswered questions in this story. My response to those reviewers are try and think for yourself, and don't expect everything to be given to you on silver platter already homogenized and digested. Or maybe those viewers should go and watch Mad Max or transformers. In here characters are 3 dimensional and human like, not cardboard cutouts. Very refreshing I wish there were more movies like this.
