During the '80s, a young man named Frankie dreams of escaping London's South East region, and his mother's thug of a boyfriend gives him just the opportunity. After beating up the abusive beau, Frankie runs off to Spain, where he lands a job delivering a package to the dapper Playboy Charlie, a gangster who takes him under his wing. Working as Charlie's driver, Frankie is immersed in a world of fast cars and pretty women -- but all the excess could be his undoing.

Tedfoldol everything you have heard about this movie is true.
Huievest Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
Neive Bellamy Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
Skyler Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
modius Proudly proclaiming itself to have "More cocaine that Casino, more guns than Goodfellas and more swearing than Scarface", Nick Love's 2005 movie "The Business" is a rags to riches tale of a young criminal who escapes certain jail time to the "Costa Del crime" in Gibraltar and Spain to go into business with a self-made gangster. The idea that this movie somehow should belong in the same category as Casino, Goodfellas and Scarface seemed a very tall order, and unfortunately it actually serves more as an ironic epitaph as it never even gets to the same level as any of its more famous US counterparts.Overall, the movie isn't too bad. The plot is interesting and well developed, the characters are well cut and the pace is crisp and to the point; but I felt that there were parts that were obviously tailor made for the Lad's mag market it was quite targeted and marketed at; for this I point to the over-the-top swearing, constant MTV cut-away shots and a wide-boy faux British Cockney gangster attitude that is not only annoying, and frustrating to watch. As many montages of money, drugs and air-plane drops you can muster will not hide the fact that plot points are glossed over very quickly; the back story of how they, in Spain, got in touch with Columbians drug barons who were seemingly happy to fly the thousands of miles to Spain to do one small deal seemed very unrealistic. One thing I did like was the political, greasing of the local mayor to ensure their supply is not touched by the police and law enforcement; however when a certain member of the British Cockney gang is "killed" I do wish they'd explain how and who, rather than just going for the big shock value.Disappointingly, there was very little of the "Costa Del crime" concept that was never really developed; instead the film is really just about a very small group of 30-40 year old's who think they are the biggest thing to ever exist; only for them to realise actually they're just a lot of bark and not much bite. And this is the main problem I have with "The Business". For all its talk of being a gangster movie, its just a small bunch of mouthy cockney gangsters who play up to the Lad's mag crowd, and shoves in random drug moments and pop-culture references in a bid to make itself edgy and hip.In addition, the movie looks and feels very cheap; with a limited or low budget it hides its low quality behind the veneer of expensive villas and sunny beaches.Should this be in the same category as Casino, Goodfellas and Scarface? Nope, not at all; its not even in the same league and my advise would be - if you want to watch a modern gangster movie it's probably best to stick to the American gangster movies or, if you want to watch a British one, see Layer Cake instead.Overall, the film quality is very poor and the Lad's mag gangster flick's claims to be in the same league as US gangster movies actually serves as a weighty reminder of just how good those movies are, and how poor this is in comparison.4/10
Angelus2 Frankie arrives in Spain as the driver of Charlie, a London Gangster who is living the life in the sunny country, were he is surrounded by beautiful women, alcohol, drugs and beautiful scenery. But, the more Frankie delves into this world, he finds himself seduced by the power and it doesn't take long for this to turn sour.Danny Dyer's not an actor, I particularly like to watch, but I have to say I thought he was very good as the cowardly Frankie, Tamer Hassan was brilliant as the cockney gangster show 'Kid Frankie' the ropes, he seems to have that 'Professional Hardman' role in his grasp, and don't expect him to let it go.Georgina Chapman is just beautiful as the seductress, who lures Frankie into this dark, glamorous lifestyle. Overall, the film is basically a comedy more than anything else, its not a gritty gangster flick, but a hilarious take on things, the sheep stealing, and downfall is just hilarious.
azzabrown93 Nick Love's follow up to Football Factory begins in a similar fashion to Scarface, the difference being that The Business has an ending which leaves the audience feeling content, and even leaves room for a sequel - something which Scarface does not.The film captures the sentiment of cockney gangsters, which Guy Ritchie never could. A fairly unfamous cast was used which resulted in less predictability; something which may spoil future Love productions if he continues this re-occurring cast.Overall,a fabulous soundtrack and stunning visuals capture the vibe of 1980s ex-pat Spain perfectly. My one criticism would be the weakness of the plot in the Second half of the film in comparison to the first. Let us hope Nick Love finds the form of his first two films after such disappointments as Outlaw and City Rats.
RickHarvey You don't need a brain to understand this. But saying that, it can lead to arguments. Many people enjoy films that are easy to watch while some seem to find it offensive to there intellectual brains. Not all films have to be on a serious note. The business doesn't try to be an scarface or an Godfather. Sure it has many references towards scarface but it doesn't want to be an classic, it just wants to entertain and that the most important factor of any film, entertainment. The film is cliché but it don't matter about that as the characters are entertaining. There not the most in depth characters you'll ever come across neither can you relate to them but the use of language that they often express can make situations humorous. The film is backed by an cool 80s soundtrack trying to hit the same notes as scarface. The soundtrack is easily forgettable. The cast also works well. Sure there not the greatest actors but there fun to watch and you totally know what to expect from them.On the other hand, some lines will make you cringe for example " he so hard even his nightmares are afraid of him". This is where Nick Love shows his weakness and immaturity. This is an line which an 13 year old would write. The narrating from Danny Dyer's character seems out of place. His tone of voice is totally contrasted from his attributes and body language. They don't fit together. I'm not an huge fan of Dyer's acting abilities but none less , he manages to entertain. All he needs is more roles like the Borstal boy rather than being type-casted.Overall the film is enjoyable to watch. It has no plot but that don't matter . Unless your one of those so called people with intellectual brains who thinks all films so be made just for them,if not then you have nothing to fear and should watch this film for the hell of it.
