NekoHomey Purely Joyful Movie!
TaryBiggBall It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
Roy Hart If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
alex-wright-537-334128 It is a Low budget film, but they made it work with what they had. The characters were awesome, some great lines...funny as f*%k!!! A MUST.
danthewrestlingmanorigin Who would have thought a movie with Coolio in the cast, would get a ten rating from me? Actually Pterodactyl was pretty fun as well, maybe he's making a comeback LOL. Seriously, hopefully not. Anyways onto my review, this film delivers with a solid cast, funny script, and a kick butt heroine performance from Scream Queen Icon Adrienne Barbeau. The scene of young Adrienne shooting up the demon nuns, was priceless. The gore was all there, and got past by the censors being that the demons bleed green slime, way to stick it to the MPAA Mr. Mendez. And by the way the gay satanist, needs to be cast in more genre films, he was hilarious in this. All in all good horror fun, and if you enjoy this, I recommend the Night Of The Demons Trilogy, The Hazing, Soulkeeper, and Dead Hate The Living, which are all fun tongue in cheek horror films like this.
Backlash007 The Convent is an 80's film made in the year 2000. Normally I would be very pleased with this, but the comedic elements go too far in this one. If this film would have been played more seriously I would give it a shining review. It had all the great elements of a classic. It had a good storyline, good actors, great gore, a few genre veterans (Bill Moseley and Adrienne Barbeau), and it was highly reminiscent of Night of the Demons (a favorite of mine). The first 30 minutes are really engrossing and just drip with the 80's. But when the goth kids (one of whom works at the Dairy Cream) show up it's played directly for laughs. I was a bit puzzled as to the total change in tone and knew right away that I wouldn't be adding The Convent to my collection. But I was definitely entertained by this piece so I can't say I didn't have fun. The highlight for me was watching a demon getting a flashlight shoved in it's mouth and through the back of its head. That is a rather wicked scene. If I could compare Mike Mendez to a director it would be Brian Yuzna. Sometimes they need to reign in the goofy comedy and maybe go for some smarter laughs.
krsph Despite the bad reviews I decided to pick this movie up and it was interesting to say the least. Where it can't be deemed a "true horror movie" because of comic lines and acting (sometimes not intended I'm sure), this movie still has some merit. Acting and character depth are not its strong virtues and the special effects could never win any awards for sure. Coolio's role in the movie was funny and it was good to see Bill Moseley for once not hiding behind a ton of makeup. Adrienne Barbeau's character is over the top and drags the movie down somewhat. David Gunn's character will have you laughing as will Richard Trapp's character. The story idea is different and gets your attention. Instead of switching from horror film to horror/comedy throughout the movie, the movie would have been better served to be played out as a straight laced hard edged horror flick from start to finish. Despite its many flaws the movie is still worth picking up and watching. Just don't put your expectations too high.
