TrueJoshNight Truly Dreadful Film
MoPoshy Absolutely brilliant
Claire Dunne One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Alistair Olson After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
Michael Ledo Daniel Landsman (Jack Black) Is attempting to get people to come to their 20 year high school reunion. He is obsessed and no one wants to come. He discovers former classmate Oliver Lawless (James Marsden) is a successful Banana Boat sunscreen spokes model. He convinces his boss (Jeffrey Tambor) to let him fly to LA under false pretences so he can convince Oliver to come to the reunion, using his name as a draw card.Daniel will do anything to get Oliver to come to the reunion, which made this an uncomfortable comedy. When I am not comfortable, I can't laugh, and the film wasn't funny up to that point to begin with. The whole film blows up at the end in an inane confrontation.Guide: F-bomb, sex, nudity? Bad script.
o o I don't understand what people that this was funny...........drug abuse? drunken sex? etc etc etc.......frankly speaking this movie was a time waste event. See black was in this i thinking " WOW it must be great" its was trashy sex movie that seem to include the buzz of trans gender theme.........crappy and a worthless watch movie. I believe that trans-gender is a wonderful thing, but Hollywood is now junking up the movies with this concept Robin Williams is yet another trashy version of this type of movie..totally lost in the making and thinking people are stupid enough to buy into anything with top actors and actress in them...........YUCK!
edwagreen This very good film shows that Jack Black, a guy who never left Pittsburgh after Community College, gets more than he bargained for when he tries to get someone from his high school days, who has seemed to make it big in Hollywood doing a major commercial, to attend the high school class reunion. To do this, Black lies to his boss that he is on the verge of making a big deal for the firm out in California, and needs to go there. The boss, who is reluctant to get into the 20th century and buy a computer, goes with him to California to cinch the deal. While there, Black sees the guy, a hip and cool James Marsden, and parties with him and ends the night in a sexual romp with him! While the boss may be too understanding when the truth comes out, the film is a good one as it shows ordinary people caught up in trying out a new way of life.
WatchingFromWashington I keep trying to think of anything that might be considered amusing in this movie and I fail to understand how this could remotely be considered a comedy-drama, or even a dark-comedy drama.Drama - yes. Comedy - absolutely no way. The film follows the main character played by Jack Black as he goes to dangerous lengths in order to secure an RSVP from the "hometown celebrity" to their class reunion. The story continues to become darker and more dramatic with each passing event in the film. I kept wondering when the comedy would kick in, but it never did, or did I just missing something? The acting was good, the script was decent and the movie itself was well done, but I'd have never seen this film had I known that it was going to be such a depressing and dark, downer of a film. If you are looking for a moody, serious drama with dark undertones, this film is for you.Otherwise, stick to a good classic comedy, drama like Little Miss Sunshine or When Harry Met Sally.
