The greatest movie ever made..!

It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.

One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.

Hope that Netflix will give this film deserved exposure. The story idea was great. The acting was good. The script was amateurish and the director must have been frustrated in that position. It shows. Needs to be re-edited, maybe.Script: heroine (Bening) appeared too self-absorbed to earn our sympathy. Hero was meant to have been Robin Williams and that role was not well developed.Direction: Slow pace for 50 minutes of the film then rushed at the end, as they probably ran out of funds. So, viewers miss out on the joy of sharing with Bening, her conquering of self. I mean, I would prefer to have ended up liking her.Somebody help me: remake this

The Face of Love is a brilliant film with perfect performances and a fascinating screenplay about the risk and comfort of clinging to the past, using it as an excuse to evade the present and ignore the future. The great Ed Harris makes an excellent work in his dual role, bringing an appropriately warm and vulnerable attitude and achieving moments of an abundant emotional intensity. Annette Bening very solidly navigates the line between sincere love and sickly obsession, and the sadly deceased Robin Williams is absolutely credible as Bening's character neighbor and friend. Before watching The Face of Love, I thought it was going to be a generic autumnal romance, but the film ended up being something much more interesting than that, presenting us an interesting psychological perspective which is rarely examined in modern cinema. In conclusion, I liked The Face of Love very much, and I definitely recommend it, specially to those who want to see an excellent adult drama, which is lacking of clichés and full of deepness.

Hats off to the writers and the director. This is a wonderful script and a wonderful idea. One can see why actors of the caliber of Annette Bening and Ed Harris wanted to do this film. Their performances are exceptional.Nikki is flawed in such a terribly human way - who wouldn't give just about anything for another day with their beloved? - and so we understand her deception, though we are horrified by it.I half expected her daughter to either faint dead-away or scream on the spot when she meets Tom, but her reaction is even more visceral and violent than one would expect.Nikki lapses into a kind of temporary insanity in Mexico, which is an understandable reaction to the very depth of her grief over Garrett's death.Robin Williams' subtle sadness projected in his performance is especially heartbreaking, as it was one of his last.Nikki does finally move on in a way that is satisfying to the audience, though I won't spoil its beauty here. A very moving film.

Despite the presence of Robin Williams in the cast, I decided to see this movie because of the lead actors - Ed Harris and Annette Bening, two performers who rarely disappoint. My bad. They just couldn't overcome the ridiculous premise of this story. I confess that I stuck with it because I am the eternal optimist and I knew there just had to be pony in here somewhere. No pony and no hope of a pony.I'm not a fan of romantic comedies, but with a little tweaking of this preposterous storyline "The Face of Love" might have made a decent light comedy. I kept waiting for some explanation, no matter how unlikely, that an exact replica of the Ed Harris character - same face; same age; same physique; same male-pattern baldness- could have appeared in the same So-Cal community. Something like identical twins separated at birth would have helped me to suspend disbelief. Not only is there no inquiry from the Bening character - there is no apparent interest. I'm giving this film a 2 just because it is such a welcome change to see romance on film between two middle-aged characters, but if middle-aged people are going to behave like this then never mind. Let's just stick to a tried and true mid-life crisis melodrama.
