BroadcastChic Excellent, a Must See
Usamah Harvey The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Derry Herrera Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
tilmanowl *SPOILERS* *My analysis*Although I've seen many theories about mental illness and the problems that the characters have, I think none of this is true. The two main characters are, in fact, computer simulations. Some real-life TV studio hired the actors and modeled an AI after them and then put them into the TV shows to unknowingly act out the prefect TV show. The actors think it's all real, so they're not acting; It just is real to them. This explains so much. For example, the therapist and the other "doctors" are in fact just computer programmers/AI technicians who are trying to control Sam. The ability to see each other through TV is a glitch in the programming and all the title-card, TV-show cinematography and soundtracks show that each of their lives is a TV production. This also explains why the writer's couldn't follow Sam when she enters the writer's office. In reality, she's leaving the human-accessible part of the program and moving into the writer-AI's code. This place can't be accessed by humans and she modifies the script (code) to change the outcome of Alex's story. In alex's story, the black corruption is just that--data corruption. With his show complete the humans shelved his server or something and the black goo spreading over the world is just the hard drives slowly erasing.
aimanislam While ideas of God or fate may come up, I latch onto the film's address of the controls we necessarily allow to crop our lives. While we watch the character's emotional journeys, the audience's experience is purely intellectual, which is the main limitation of the film. The relationship element of the movie seems more a vehicle for the story than the center, so I'm glad they kept to their real purpose by not including mushy stuff that would have muddled everything. It's about freedom of the self not being fulfilled by others. One other criticism, personally, is that I find it moves rather slow and the scenes of literally fighting the frame seem a bit gimmicky.
Nelson Garcia 8/10What a find this gem of a movie was! The originality of the film is amazing. David Carranza's acting is incredibly captivating. The movie is thought-provoking in so many levels. There is a fairy-tale quality to the stories of Alex and Sam, but in darker tones and with the substance of a thriller. The movie is a blending of stories and genres, all interweaving and working with each other in a thrilling and strangely beautiful ballet of movie-making magic. Alex, played by Mike Carranza playing Mike Carranza, meets Sam, played by Tiffany Mualem playing Tiffany Mualem through the television in his living room... That must have sounded so confusing on paper, yet Director Jamin Winans never lets the viewer have to carry the weight of the plot in order to appreciate the movie. The complexity of the plot device is more Memento than Primer or Inception, if you need a point of reference. In other words, the viewer is never more confused than the characters themselves are.The final act is the most brilliant, in my opinion, but where some viewers might mentally disconnect because the movie demands more of the viewer. I won't spoil it by going into details.Do yourself a favor and watch this movie, and keep an eye on both Jamin Winans and Mike Carranza.
Earl Martin I ran across this on Amazon. It grabbed me pretty early into the movie and kept me drawn in. It is very well thought out, artistic, and moving. Thank you for doing what you love and I feel you love this story and wanted to see it come to completion. Well, you did it! Now the world get's to enjoy it. Keep up the great work!
