ClassyWas Excellent, smart action film.
Merolliv I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
huutheheckcares Yes, why do I (at least) enjoy repeatedly watching this movie every now & then? What is there about it that makes this so?Well, I think maybe I may have figured it out. I think there are several reasons: For one, is its simplicity. It kinda reminds you of an amateurish production, but a GOOD one at that. Maybe a secret desire in us to at last watch a GOOD amateur film and we wish ALL of them could be good. Next are the characters - what a wonderful mix; each played pretty well, although maybe a bit amateurishly (but, remember we want to see a good amateur film). The main characters all have a pretty strong presence. Probably almost everyone can relate to one of the characters. The budding romance between Laurel & Nick is touching (especially, their parting scene - "remember the daisies"). I could certainly fall for someone as sweet as Laurel!Third, the whole movie has quite a surreal feeling - the music track helps that - it is almost like a dream (or nightmare) - you can really kind of escape into this make believe situation. Then there is a bit of humor - Mr Toomey is almost laughable in a pitiful way - Bronson's overacting is a hoot. And of course, when the title characters come on screen, you really got to cringe AND laugh at them at the same time.Lastly, it just seems the entire cast enjoyed making this film - maybe not, but it seems that way. How about a Langoliers II? Somehow the same characters coincidentally find themselves all together on another flight 20 years later. Are all the actors still available? Imagine the possibilities! Hey, Stephen!
tiskec I think this mini-series had great potential. It wasn't one of King's best book adaptations to a made for television screen-play, that's for sure. The characters weren't the same as in the short story at all. Also, I don't think they had much of a budget to work with at all, or at least it APPEARED that way when you watched it.I thought the character backgrounds were blotched together and very vague. The mini-series doesn't give you much of who they are until close to the end. There is the one businessman that is just annoying. Seriously, you'd want to punch this guy's character in the face multiple times. Craig Toomey is his name in the flick. My god. In the story, there's only a small group of people that survived when the airplane that they were inhabiting flew through an aurora borieles (the Northern Lights). It just happened to be a small wrinkle in time that sent the surviving passengers back about ten to fifteen seconds into the past. There, they are challenged with finding out how to fly back through the time wrinkle, before being consumed by the time eaters known as the Langoliers. Toomey had known about them the whole time. His father used to threaten him that if he wasn't perfect, they'd eat him alive. Well, Craig Toomey thought they weren't real, until "then." Without giving too much away, my opinion on the cast, is that it had good actors, but a very sh**ty script. It looked as if it were rushed. Also, when the Langoliers appear to the audience, expect some of the worst CGI you've ever seen. It is very comical. I'm actually not sure If I would recommend this as a mini-series run for anybody or not. It's just one of those filming projects you have to judge for yourselves.
imnotsure-37008 Despite being low budget, this is one of the best Stephen King adaptations of all time. It doesn't win on acting, and certainly not on special effects but the intriguing story more than makes up for that. It was TV CGI from 1995 so lower your expectations for quality there. If you like hard sci-fi explored in original way, this may be the movie for you. Minor spoilers ahead. It explores an aspect of time travel I have never seen discussed before or since. It starts out on a red eye flight where most of the passengers seem to disappear with no explanation. From there the movie will keep you guessing. Back when this movie came out I was 10 and when it was finally revealed what the Langoliers are it really scared me.
roseybaby63-59-43149 I really liked this movie a lot. The story it's based on is excellent. While I enjoyed reading the story more, this movie is a very good adaptation of it. I've read some reviews where people don't like the acting. I think the acting is excellent. They absolutely expressed the characters as written. I know it's a long movie, but it pulls you in. Maybe some people don't like movies with a whole lot of dialog and little 'action'. It's a character study as well as a creepy story. I also like the way it was shot. The close ups add to the sense of claustrophobia and dread. I know lots of people who love this movie, as well. I have no problem watching the entire thing in one sitting. I've seen it many times. Heck, I'm watching it right now. So, I'll finish this review and get back to the movie. I recommend this movie...if you have the attention span for it.
