Lack of good storyline.
Helllins
It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.
Ariella Broughton
It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

This is a simple movie with it's roots in treasure hunting. The limitations of being a low budget TV movie is visible in certain scenes but it doesn't affect the experience. This movie is cheesy, witty, entertaining and family friendly. You can watch this movie with your family and have a good time. All the actors gave a wonderful performance(except the lead actress, felt like she's not suited for the character). Direction was good, screenplay was OK for the theme considering the budget. There are flaws in story telling and plot, still it's a solid watch(not a no brainer). Sit back relax and enjoy the movie, you'll definitely have a good time.

The Librarian: Quest for the Spear is the first of The Librarian franchise.Noah Wyle stars in the title role as Flynn Carsen, who happens to be a perpetual college student who has obtained 22 academic degrees. Bob Newhart,Jane Curtin,Olympia Dukakis,Kyle MacLachlan,Sonya Walger and Kelly Hu co-stars.Flynn Carsen has collected numerous degrees as he spent most of his time in college. Now that he is 30 years old,he still remains shy which frustrates his mother so much for she wants him to settle down on his own. Finally, his professor expels him to gain some life experience in the real world.Looking for work,Carsen found an unexpected opening with the New York Metropolitan Library where he was hired to look after a special collection that is unknown to the world such as relics that includes the Holy Grail, Pandora's Box, the Golden Fleece, the Sword of Excalibur and the real Mona Lisa. But things become dangerous when there is a group known as Serpent Brotherhood and are determined to steal everything that Carsen has been taking care of in the library. This is definitely fun, enjoyable and an entertaining adventure TV movie. It is definitely far from realistic which can definitely be refreshing. Noah Wyle does a great job and provides a lot of interest in his role as the perpetual college student together with the supporting cast who provided great performances. It is a good film that one can sure in a lazy afternoon.

I have enjoyed all of the films in The Librarian series, but so far the first one "Quest for the Spear" is (in my opinion) the best. Noah Wyle, Olympia Dukakis, Bob Newhart and Jane Curtain are especially wonderful in this. The film has a lot of entertaining and original concepts, with good to excellent dialog, a decent plot, plenty of action and humor, beautiful sets and great special effects, all of which I loved. The film definitely camps it up in a few spots and even devolves into something of an Indiana Jones parody in a few scenes - in my opinion this doesn't quite work and would have been better either left out or pushed with some tongue-in-cheek IJ references, but on the whole the film is good enough (and different enough) to get past that. "Quest for the Spear" is definitely several levels above most made for TV movies and, while it is not an A+ (like all the Indiana Jones movies), it is at least a solid B movie - and I personally give it an A-. Lots of fun and definitely recommended. And yes, it is a great family film which manages to be reasonably funny and intelligent without ever having to throw in the bathroom toilet to get there.

A native and meek but brilliant librarian named Flynn (Noah Wylie) discovers there's more than meets the eye at his library. It actually houses a vast storehouse of magical and legendary artifacts, like Excalibur, which loves to poke at him. A mystical spear, broken into three sections, has to be found before some bad guys can put it back together than take over the world, and Flynn gets pressed into service to find the pieces, reunite them and bring them back with him. Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin run this rather odd library, and give Flynn his marching orders, which in this lighthearted adventure takes him into the heart of the Amazon jungle. He is aided in his search by a gorgeous and ultratough agent (Sonya Walger). The film, a mishmosh of INDIANA JONES and the Marx Brothers, is beautifully executed for a TV movie and loads of fun for all family members. Two sequels have followed, with Flynn slowly settling into his new role as a sort of a supernerdy James Bond. Highly recommended.
