Based on a true story, American Marine Jason Johnson (Goselaar) is sent on assignment to the Emirate of Bahrain. While there, he meets and falls in love with a spirited, lovely young woman, Meriam (Nichols), without realizing she is really a member of the Bahraini Royal Family. Meriam, who does not wish to consent to an arranged marriage, knows her love affair with Jason is dangerous, as he is a Mormon Christian and she a Muslim. Her parents would never consent to their match, and so Meriam and Jason race against time to escape Bahrain and make it to the United States, where they can marry. If Meriam is sent back, however, her life may be in jeopardy.

Interesteg What makes it different from others?
Incannerax What a waste of my time!!!
Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Rio Hayward All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Michael L.S. As someone who is going through a similar situation, I am extremely disappointed with some of the comments here whose purpose is nothing but to spread absurd politically-correct propaganda.Yes, the movie is replete with inaccuracies: from the police uniforms, to geography, to topography, to scenery, to everyday practices in Bahrain (e.g. salespeople in theaters are extremely unlikely to be Bahrainis or Moslems; they are usually Filipinos and Indians who take no interest in a couple romancing each other). However, the underlying premise of the picture is spot-on. There is a reason this case engendered as much publicity as it did, and no, the woman being a princess was not the only one. A Bahraini (or, in my case, Kuwaiti) woman is practically never involved with or married to a Westerner, and certainly never a non-Moslem, because everyone knows very well that doing so and getting caught is guaranteed to entail severe mental and physical punishment, including death. Therefore, the portrayal of Maryam's family and culture is not at all "bigoted." If anything, it was incredibly mild compared to what actually goes on in the homes of the Arabian/Persian Gulf states. The relentless, institutionalized brainwashing and control to which Bahraini, Kuwaiti, Saudi, Qatari, Emirati, and Omani women are subjected to boggles the mind, and no amount of imagination on the part of someone who never experienced it can possibly depict it. The couple's relationship ultimately did not work out. That though is most likely the result of the couple's lack of maturity and preparedness for married life; it is certainly not a vindication of the oppressive "culture" Maryam was born into.THis movie is not a documentary nor was it envisioned to be such. It is, however, inspirational and educational. I hope my own story has a happy ending despite all the tribulations still coming our way.
schuggiz This is a horrible movie that shows that the director/producer/actors did not at all bother find out about a culture they are talking about. This movie is full of flaws and displays a totally wrong picture of the Arabic/Muslim culture. Even the infrastructure of Bahrain is shown as old/poor with camels and stuff.Any person who ever has seen any of the gulf countries (some of the richest countries in the world) will see that the infrastructure is in much better shape and way more modern that in the US or western Europe...And no attention is given to the fact that the adult marine is actually having his love-affair with a minor, which is not romantic, but disgusting. This movie really just makes me wanna puke my guts out!Disgusting, simplistic and manipulative!
Kristine I watched this when it was on T.V. I was curious about the story. Because I remembered that on the news I had heard about a princess from the middle east snuck here to Chicago to be with a marine she met from her home. I wanted to know what happened. The movie was wonderful to watch. The love story was so bitter sweet. I mean, you hear of Romeo and Juliet stories. Just like "My parents don't like you, but I love you" yadda, yadda, yadda. But this story was so different. They did whatever they could to stay together. I hope Mariam gets to stay here in the U.S. with Jason.9/10
WAHDANI1 The scene of passing camel and goats roaming in front of the marine HQ was the most laughing part in the movie. The area happened to be one of the most recent developed areas on the Island. So it was very funny and unnecessary at the same time. It is Hollywood stuff and adding spices to already poor-tasted recipe might make some difference!!Since it is a true story, the least the marine could have done to convince the girl and the audience world-wide (besides accepting demotion at work and standing to the Immigration harassment on arrival at Chicago Airport) was to convert to Islam so the marriage could gain acceptance. Caused this is mandatory for a Muslim girl to do, as a Muslim woman is not allowed to marry non-muslim. There are thousands of all sorts of males nationalities ( be it Americans , Europeans etc..) who fell in love with Muslim girls - but have to convert to Islam to get married. The movie is a fairy-tale like that it could have been extracted from the folklore "The Thousand-night-&-night" book. Mind you Bahrain is an Arab Country and used to be named the "Land of Eternity". All are welcome.
