GazerRise Fantastic!
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
Stephanie There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
welshtrekker How can those two genres even mix? Gore horror and classic buddy movie action sizzle together. Fallen marine Bart returns home in a coffin, but not for long, much to the surprise of his best friend Joey played by the quite brilliantly unique Chris Wylde. Upon rising from the grave, Bart seeks solace in his buddy who does what he can to aid his dead friend - even if it means bending the rules a bit. When it seems that only human blood can keep Bart from rotting away, Joey takes him to the streets as a vigilante killer and so plenty of warm blood to drain. The movie develops in a way that will hook you to the brilliant end sequence. The performances are world class, and the script razor sharp blending black humor and witty dialogue from start to finish. Zombie movies get an original slant here. This is the very best of the indie movie industry.
aleugene I had no expectations other than wanting a time-killing zombie film to watch. How could there be films that are well-done but passed over? Well, this is one of them. What this film has is exactly what most films don't, especially among the spate of overblown summer films this year. While it's slow-moving at times, all the extra time is spent on genuine, realistic character development, a too rare exercise sometimes. Surrounding some of the most original zombie movie treatments are reactions to unreal circumstances that ring true. At one time funny, it is also part snarky, sinister and visually dark. Some images are hair raising. The camera work is consistently striking and playful, matched by well thought-out dialog and street-wise sensibilities. The diatribe by the black gang member about race and it's implications is dead on ridiculous. I've heard it in real life. For all of the film, I was convinced that the writer believed in these possibilities and made sure they worked beyond theory. Buried among some really creepy scenes are clever snippets of sarcasm and non-pc banter. And none of it comes off as insulting. It's almost a realistic ghetto version of a monster film. No one character in this film is allowed to escape, either. It's kind of beautiful, in many ways, a real love project that probably suffered from its title. I won't give away anything here but what happens to the "cholo" who robs them is creepy as all hell, even stunning. The one weakness is the girlfriend's acting which seemed unconvincing. Granted, crying on cue is difficult, but her acting seemed untrained. It's a minor weakness though. And none of this film comes across as cheaply done. I'm sure this will become a bigger favorite over time. George Romero could never achieve this.
trashgang On the promotion it was written, really funny really gory. Can't say that I agree with that. Not that it was a bad flick but i didn't have to laugh a lot throughout this flick. My only moment of a smile was the dildo scene. But was it gory. Not even that but the effects were great. This isn't your normal zombie flick. It's been seen from the point of a zombie this time who just can't die. First it all looks great to be a zombie and yes they can help society by killing scum but after a while things go out of hand and questions come in about why walking around like an undead. As I said, the effects were very good as did the acting by David Anders (the zombie) and Chris Wylde (as his friend Joey). It never bored me because you want to know what is going on but maybe clocking in at two hours is a bit too long. Nevertheless a nice entry in the zombie genre. But not as gory as stated and funny, not for me.Gore 1,5/5 Nudity 1/5 Effects 4/5 Story 3,5/5 Comedy 0/5
ebiros2 The movie was entertaining. This is lot to be said for a zombie movie. It has no apocalyptic theme to it like so many others in this genre.A soldier comes back to life, only to find out that he's now a zombie. He goes to seek help from his friend. Together they stop a robbery at a convenience store. Later they're mistaken for a crime fighter, fighting crimes in the city. Then things starts getting complicated. They should have followed the saying "better stop while you're ahead". Instead one of them loses his head, and gets into whole lot of trouble. The movie is a comedy, but has interesting story to it as well. Production, acting, and directing are all very good. It's a small wonder that this movie won an award at the Xanadu convention in Las Vegas. It's not a major movie by any means, but it's not a B movie either. It has good mixture of both, and is very entertaining.
