There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

True to its essence, the characters remain on the same line and manage to entertain the viewer, each highlighting their own distinctive qualities or touches.

Indeed a beautiful video portrait of a family and friends coming together for an evening. I wanted to like it more, but not impressed by the overall product. However, I liked very much the film theme, not very unique, yet simpler and different than those I've seen. The cat was the centre of the narration as the title suggests, but it was seen rarely within the video frame and sometimes the characters mentions it, but we know it was around there where our eyes can't reach. On an ordinary day, about an ordinary family and their ordinary event which might remind you your own family or the others you're familiar with. I don't know the cast, but I liked their character displays. Each one offered so many topics on what they were doing, because I can easily say it was not completely written script, but they were improvised while the camera was on the roll. As the actors that's what they do, but as a viewer I must appreciate the effort. Even the kids were so impressive, yet like I said overall film fallen short by a slight margin.I'm a semi-artist, those who are interested in the art would stare at the paintings for a very long time to observe the details closely like every visible stroke the artist did. Likewise, in this, the details were very impressive. In every scene, there's something happening like each scene has its own twist before going to the next. What I meant was, it was not like those lazy films I'd seen in my life with boring scenes where camera stands still and nothing happens for a very long time. That's the reason I usually dislike art films, but a very few like this makes my day.6/10

With THE STRANGE LITTLE CAT, it's not a matter of reducing your expectations; it's more trying to change your expectations.Over the course of a day in a cramped Berlin apartment, a busy family deals with the usual mundane details: eating breakfast, fixing a washing machine, watching unwashed plates pile up, watching a hacky-sack fly through the window. Some characters tell in-jokes that almost seem surreal at times. And there's also a dog and cat, who watch the activity with curiosity. THE STRANGE LITTLE CAT not a documentary, but an almost verite family comedy. The whole film is shot at about kitchen counter level - the level where the film's "strange" cat wanders through the rooms. Once you get into the rhythm of the film, it's engrossing and frequently funny; it suggests that everyday life, as trivial as it might seem, has great value and interest, even when you might be tempted to think otherwise.

Perhaps lost in translation but this film is basically a documenting of a day in the life of a family. The closest we get to any impact of the somewhat illustrated stress of that living (and what's unique about that?) is when mom looks like she might, just might, lose it. A plus though is the "feeling European" that comes through in mannerism and relationship. I grabbed it because it was my understanding that Bela Tarr was involved; turns out, he was, but in a relatively minor way (workshop, not class)that this film cannot be considered being done by one of his students. So count me among those who saw the film to the end but in the end, came away unimpressed. Unfortunately, the extras were a big disappointment shedding light only on the "source basis" for the film

Just an ordinary life of an ordinary family - The following is my personal opinion about the film - it might seem extreme in a way to you. For me this is only a film about an usual family that lives its everyday life in a big city, nothing more, nothing special, no exciting dialogs, no outstanding characters, no effects. Why should I go to cinema or watch TV when I can see it all day long at home? I have to admit I did not watch the film to the end - but there was no sign that it might become better till the end. For me a film must show an intention - even if that is only amusement. But here I cannot see what the director or writer wants to tell us.
