Best movie of this year hands down!

Admirable film.

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

In a small town, the teenager Mary is obsessed and addicted with horror movies. Further, she is sleepwalker, has frequent nightmares and her father has forbidden her to watch horror movies.I have been trying to avoid films made in the last ten years, but I could not resist seeing Ron Silver, one the screen's greatest natural villains. I swear he does not even try -- he just shows up and evil fumes from his body. Maybe that was not such a good move on my part, though, as this seems to be just another average low budget horror film. There are some decent scares and some characters who are mildly interesting, but horror fans are not likely to find something in "The Wisher" they have not already seen elsewhere.

I'll start with the spoiler first: Girl has some sort of psychic connection with horror movies and after a few contrived scenes, she develops the ability to say "I wish" XXX would happen, and then it does. I wish she had made the wish for me to not spend my time on this terrible, terrible, terrible flick. Don't get me wrong--I am a fan of bad horror flicks. I am not a fan of this one. But, to be honest, I only made it halfway through. I had the movie on in the background while I was working. Perhaps during the second half of the movie, Wisher/Spliced became the Citizen Kane of B-horror films. But I doubt it. Citizen Kane had the suspense til the end; we found out that Rosebud was a sled. There's no suspense til the end of this movie; you'll find out that it sucks rocks early on.

This flick is an attempted allegory and seems meant to mean something beyond the usual cheap, demented thrills sought by true slasher movie fans. So, if you're into breasty young things getting their bodies mutilated as some sort of cathartic reaction to changing gender roles, this film is not for you.On the other hand, if you like films that leave you in a "hmm..." state of mind, this is more your cup of tea. It is, unfortunately, hampered by an under-skilled director and some occasionally truly horrid editing, but the acting is well-done. Liane Balaban delivers well in the role, though it is not one that is BEST suited for her well-developed talent.

You know, when 3/4 of the females are hot in a movie, you can overlook the horrible plot and be entertained by the women alone....but in this movie the stench of the plot is too horrible to overcome. The overall plot completely rips off The Wishmaster and tries to rip off Nightmare on Elm Street. It seems the movie was made in two parts, the first part dealt with the main character sleepwalking and the second half was about the main character getting chased by a weird demon.By the end, the plot was so unbearable and nobody died. A lot of people were hacked by the monster but no one died, what is with that? The monster in the end was played by the young caddy from Happy Gilmore.Think about that, a singer from 98 Degrees saved a girl from the young caddy from Happy Gilmore. Horror has hit rock bottom 4 out of 10 for cute girls but the rest was horrible.
