Very well executed

Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

The Wolfman is a disappointment. Nobody is going to compare Joe Johnstone to Spielberg or Lucas but there was no reason for the studios to give the reins of a film to a man who is better known in the vfx arena and not as a wholesome filmmaker. What is even worse is that The Wolfman isn't even visually exciting. It is too dark and drab and the makeup (which for a film where a man transforms into a werewolf is of top importance) leaves a lot to desire. Frankly speaking An American Werewolf in London had more realistic makeup and transformation. And all this without going into the story or pacing. To be fair The Wolfman is an alright film but do not go in with much expectation.

The wolfman is your typical average werewolf movie with little to no character development and weak back story but if you are a fan of werewolf movies like i am , you can still watch it as long as you don't end up spending money on it because that's when you get into the grey area and start regretting it. If you are not a fan of werewolf movies there is really nothing in the movie to hold your interest. Below Average Acting, Average screenplay , Average soundtrack, below average direction (Joe Johnston should stick to movies like honey i shrunk the kids and jumanji) where it is more visually striking than a horror thriller which requires a very different storytelling. My rating 5/10 : nothing more, nothing less than what it tries to achieve. I watched it because of 2 reasons Emily Blunt and Werewolf and i am still not sure if it was worth it.

more a retelling than a remake of the 1941 Universal Studios classic, the similarities more or less start and end with the titular monster make-up and character names. Sir John Talbot, Larry/Lawrence's father, is played by Anthony Hopkins, whose performance drives the film.Joe Johnston's Wolfman is a Gothic romance reminiscent of, though not quite the masterpiece of movie magic that is Coppola's Dracula, with an excellent soundtrack composed by Danny Elfman and several others who, according to Wikipedia, 'were brought in to shape Elfman's score to fit the final cut of the film, as well as compose new material'. worth watching and judging by its own merit

Lawrence is summoned by his sister in law to assist finding his brother who has been missing for a couple of weeks. During the investigation, he gets bitten by the same creature who killed his brother, beginning to observe unusual reactions from his body. Thus, he must investigate what is with this creature, fact which will uncover hidden truths from his childhood, radically changing his perception regarding his family. It's a dramatic thriller, mixed with some horror sequences in a spooky village of England from the 1890s. Honestly said, nothing interesting really happens until Lawrence's first transformation, only from then, things start to step up a bit. Contrary to what I was expecting, there isn't a lot of action which involves a werewolf so I wasn't fascinated by the course of events. The atmosphere it creates is very good, dark, sober and even foggy, perfect for the movie's plot. The finale, although logical and expected, left a bit of disappointment with its collateral damage but it is in tone with the rest of the film.I had higher hopes regarding this one after seeing it's title and cast but it turned out to be another average movie.
