These Final Hours plays just a few hours before doomsday, whereas many people are going crazy and/or try to cope in one or the other way, as they all know about their certain death, a young man saves a little girl from some abusers and takes care of her, finally, this girl gives our hero some redemption and closure before the final act. This is really a surprisingly good little flick - all the actors play well, and whereas the production is not too big, it is sufficient enough to carry the story, and on top, the plot is interesting and gives us some new angle on the apocalyptic movie genre. A must see - at least for every fan of the genre.

I've skipped over this for weeks on Netflix but tonight I decided to watch it. It was much better than I thought it was going to be. I felt the atmosphere was good throughout most of the movie. A good mixture of the extremes and moderation you might find in this kind of situation. The cinematography was good with interesting tones for the sky and most scenes. What I liked were the bits and pieces unexplained like what had happened to the father? What happened to that large family group in the end? If it was by agreement then why the haphazard positions of the bodies? What hit the earth? Why was there such a break in James' family? Pieces we likely didn't need but we wonder about. What was lacking to me was the sense of distance. I don't know Perth or the places being mentioned but you have the feeling that there are long drives everywhere. Yet by the end of the movie you feel the first girlfriend sea side cottage, James' sister's house, his mother's, the party and Rose's aunt's are all not that far apart. Yet we seem to be spending much too much time in vehicles.Overall it was worth watching. Always nice to see a movie set somewhere you don't know and with actors you don't recognize. Overall the acting was good including the actress who played Rose - except she needs to practice her crying. No sappy ending.

Mankind. At its worst, best and last hours. Something happened. It's not clear, what it was. But it means the end of earth and mankind in a few hours. As the planet turns, more and more of it is consumed by a merciless fire. But not everything is burned yet. In a beach house a man leaves his pregnant wife (or girlfriend) behind to go on a party and get drugged there till the end comes. On his way he sees people who decide to spent their last hours the way they like. Be it preaching, killing, dying or abducting and raping kids.Maybe it's due to the fact that he was going to be father if that whole end-of-the-world-thing wouldn't occur. But something snaps in our hero's mind and he decides to save a girl from two brutal men carrying it to a house. He learns that she is looking for her father, so he decides to help her on her way. It's the beginning of a journey that will change him and help him set his priorities straight. "These final hours" is a very deep, emotional movie that shows people when they are most desperate, fragile or afraid. Some party, but that's only to cover their fear from certain death.I haven't seen such a human movie in a long time. No false heroism nor patriotism. No false hope. Just the naked reality, outright and natural. This movie will touch your heart and have you thinking. The main character James does a great acting, but so does the girl Rose. There are a few supporting characters along the movie and even though you don't really have the time to get to know them better, they will leave their impact in the story. Every single one of them.A masterpiece. 10/10

These Final Hours is quite polished compared to many Australian films. It is still a bit grubby around the edges but has great performances and is quite emotional.Basically the world is being consumed by a fireball and Australia is the last to go. A scoundrel ditches his girlfriend to attend the party to end all parties. On his way he spots some paedos kidnapping a young girl. He gets involved and so the story unfolds. One thing that is a must to enjoy this film is that you have to realise that the world is coming to an end. This is a true extinction event; from Donald Trump in his zillion dollar bunker to cockroaches everything dies. At the end of the film - everyone dies. There I have said it. That is not a spoiler it is stated at the start of the film, it is just a little hard to accept. The movie is quite emotional and poignant. What is important? In reality we are all here for a limited time. Does it make a difference if you save someone who, in the long game, is ultimately doomed? This movie has a little poke around at this idea with some interesting results. Some of the subsidiary characters actions seem a bit unrealistic. But then you have to remember the world is ending, leaving not as much as a footprint as a legacy.
