Highly Overrated But Still Good

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

This is an okay little thriller. It's a by-the-numbers story with a twist ending that's more of a cheat than a real twist, but it's competently done and deserves notice for being remarkably family friendly.Kevin Parsons (Marc Blucas) is a brilliant seminary student who finds himself targeted by a madman called the Riddle Killer. With a series of riddles and bombs, "RK" demands that Kevin confess something. But what dark secret could Kevin possibly be keeping from everyone, including his childhood friend and almost-love Samantha Sheer (Laura Jordan)? Police psychologist Jennifer Peters (Justine Waddell), whose brother was slain by the Riddle Killer, suspects it has something to do with the dysfunctional and abusive home Kevin grew up in. But his crazy aunt Belinda (Pricilla Barnes) is no help at all and as the Riddle Killer's sadistic and mysterious plans unfold, you're not sure if anyone's going to survive.Thr3e (and yes, that's the way they spell the title) isn't anything exceptional and it's even fair to say that its plot is rather contrived, its direction average and its acting merely okay. But there are no obvious holes in the plot, the direction keeps the story clear and moving forward and the performances by the cast are likable when they're supposed to be and off-putting when they're supposed to be. Back in Ye Olden Days of Hollywood, this would have been considered a decent B movie with a crazy ending. Now, that ending might be problematic for some. It's honestly surprising, but gets most of that surprise being completely out of left field and not being supported or justified by what happens in the rest of the film. It's a bit like the Sixth Sense, except you can't go back and find little moments in the story that support the ending. That's what I mean by it being more of a cheat than a twist. That bit of deceit on the part of the filmmakers didn't ruin it for me, though your tolerance for that sort of thing may be different.Thr3e is very wholesome for a movie about a serial killer. There are some disturbing images and tense moments, but there's virtually no graphic violence, no nudity and no profanity that I noticed. You'd think this was some sort of Christian-themed film except there's only explicitly religious stuff at the very beginning and end. The bulk of the story is perfectly secular. This movie is a suspense-thriller that you can watch with all but the youngest kids. If your family is in the mood for that, this is the film for you. Outside of that situation, I'm not sure Thr3e has a whole lot of appeal despite being a decent piece of entertainment.

**SPOILERS** Hammy and predictable, in its unpredictability, thriller filmed on location in of all places Lodz Poland. Why the makers of "Thr3e" would go as far as Ploand to make a movie that supposed to take place in the US is by far the biggest mystery, far more then the identity of the serial killer in it, in the entire movie! The film mimics far more "The Sixth Sense" then "Saw" or "Se7en" which many critics claim its story copies off from. In it we have this troubled and guilt ridden seminary student Kevin Parson, Marc Blucas, who's life is being threatened, together with those close to him, with death by this screwball who likes to leaves clues to what's behind his strange and deadly actions; thus earning the name from the local newspapers as the "Riddle Killer".We get a clue to the "Riddler's" frame of mind in his insistence, in the messages that he leaves at the scene of his crimes, that Kevin should publicly apologize for what he did to him when he was a boy some 15 years ago. Kevin in picking his brain in just what the hell this "Riddler" guy is talking about comes up with the theory that he, "The Riddler", was some pervert that he caught spying on his then, as well as now, girlfriend Samantha or Sam for short, Laura Jordan, while she was undressing in her bedroom. This lead to the "Riddler" trying to murder Kevin who turned the tables on him locking him in a nearby deserted wear-house, without food and water, and leaving him for dead! Good work on Kevin's part but as he'll soon find out that the "Riddler" not only survived but wants far more then an apology from Kevin he want's him as well as his friends and family members , even his pet dog Demon, dead! Apology or not!***SPOILERS*** The off-the-wall surprise ending in "Thr3e" really makes you wounder if it was put in when those writing the screenplay just ran out of ideas or scenarios and decided to finally end it with as little pain as humanly possible for those watching the film. Even Kevin seemed to joke about it, the ending, as we see him peacefully convalescing at a local Polish, or in the film US, sanitarium. You can't blame Kevin for ending up where he did, in a loony bin, from what he so painfully experienced in the movie. Much of it of his own making!

this movie is a perfect example for a horrible movie. The characters, locations, and most of the story but none of the depth. All the characters seemed flat and emotionless. There was no character development.Through out the movie you can hear a lunatic screaming thr3e dotty words "puke","liar","confess"..The movie is all about "how Kevin confess for a stupid sin that he committed". If you want your worst enemy to confess their sins, the great deal would be to buy them a DVD copy of this crap movie(its so horrible)I am pretty sure they will confess their sins.and i m still wondering how this movie come under the horror gender. In closing, don't waste your time and money on the movie. Go read the book.

The direction is totally sub par , the acting is labored and the plot is as thin as a gossamer , DO NOT waste your time or money on this shallow movie . I shudder to think what prompted the "Actors" to agree to do this movie . I can see some talent , but the script and direction is total crap. The story could have been a winner but the screen play was abysmal , I actually feel sorry for the actors having to act out as directed. I will never again waste my time viewing anything directed by Robby Henson! If he could stoop so low as to make this movie in this form then he is on my black list ! My advice to fellow movie buffs is to stay away from this movie and to be very aware that any future movie directed by Robby Henson should be avoided like the plague
