Kidskycom It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.
Sanjeev Waters A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Marva-nova Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
Brooklynn There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.
Filipe Neto In this film, a couple will try, each in their own way, to save their daughter, who was kidnapped by a group of individuals in exchange for a ransom. This is a very usual recipe in thriller movies, like this one, and usually works well.In this case, the force of the film depends mostly on the performance of the actors. Kevin Bacon shone as the gang boss, revealing behavior that ranges from the sadistic, the meticulous, the impulsive, and the misogynist. Beside him, Charlize Theron doesn't disappoint in the role of the young mother. The actress has a strong presence, is beautiful and attractive without being exuberant and can manage the psychological side of her character. On the other side, things don't go so well. Stuart Townsend is quite weak in his character, who demanded an actor with more presence and attitude. Courtney Love isn't properly able to deal with her character and I think it was a casting mistake. The film also commits, in my opinion, a serious script error. If we had initially a criminal gang that attacked for money and had committed several successful kidnappings, the ending is structured on a different and contradictory premise: that the gang kidnapped this girl in an act of revenge against her father. If so, why haven't they done that before instead of abducting a lot of children? This makes no sense and, along with the final sequence (which looks like something out of a "Die Hard" movie), has done much to make the end of this film unrealistic, far-fetched and much weaker than the initial half. Anyway, the movie isn't bad, deserves to be watched and will please you, if you can forget these flaws. It's not brilliant, but neither it's a disaster.
alin_1-1 One of the worst movies I've seen.A stupid story and the same typical things for a case of kidnapping.Just because Charlize Theron has a role here, the producers have tried to use her sex-appeal and she will be involved in some hot scenes, but more as a teasing because, well, somehow the kidnapper has a weak part. One of the most shocking aspects of this film is the presence of a lethargic father at the beginning, but as the events are progressing he is becoming even more capable than James Bond. And from this point you can imagine what will happen with the 'poor' kidnappers.
wes-connors "When their daughter is abducted and taken for ransom by a gang of serial kidnappers, a young doctor and his wife find themselves held hostage while a 24-hour plan to extort their money is set into motion. Now, with time running out and the health of their asthmatic daughter at serious risk, they find themselves in a life-and-death race against the clock as the 'perfect crime' begins spiraling towards an unthinkable, terrifying and deadly conclusion," according to the film's official synopsis. This is the old "kidnapped family" plot, with the main attraction being casting devilish Kevin Bacon (as Joe Hickey) and gorgeous Charlize Theron (as Karen Jennings) in two of the main roles - gang leader and frazzled wife. Also interesting is how writer Greg Iles divides the kidnappers and victims into three locations… Mr. Bacon holds Ms. Theron at the family home; his wife, Courtney Love (as Cheryl), keeps Theron's husband, Stuart Townsend (as Will), in a hotel room, at gunpoint; and, Bacon's slow-witted cousin, Pruitt Taylor Vince (as Marvin Pool), minds little Dakota Fanning (as Abby) in a cabin. The three pairs come together in a "white-knuckle, edge-of-your-seat" conclusion; and, by the time you realize it isn't even remotely plausible, director Luis Mandoki and the cast have you "Trapped".****** Trapped (9/20/02) Luis Mandoki ~ Charlize Theron, Kevin Bacon, Stuart Townsend, Courtney Love
Saturnfly Because I surely did not. For starters, the family, you have an Irish man with fairly dark hair, a blonde magazine model? woman, with an intellectual young blonde daughter. That at first to me seemed unrealistic, but later on the film it was just ridiculous. I craved more information on these characters, because they seemed interesting enough, but all I was given was a bunch of strangers thrown into a pot of boiling nonsense. Don't get me wrong though, these actors are terrific with the right role, this was just supposed to be a T.V movie with actors and actresses we had never heard of. It was a lazy, terror-less film about something that people make movies about, it seems every day. They could have had a twist or two, maybe even a little bit of suspense, but no. It was boring, I was watching this film thinking to myself what I would have done if I was in that situation. Overall, the only part I actually enjoyed was when the woman got let out of the boot of the car and just ran away, I had to giggle at that.
