If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

Baffling. Baffling how this film got made, baffling what the director thought he was trying to say, baffling how this script was ever considered adequate and baffling that Fassbender and Gleeson saw fit to have anything to do with this utter turkey. The main problem is that there isn't anything even approaching a sympathetic character - they are all loathsome and this it is impossible to enjoy a single moment of anything that occurs. A total waste of time and effort.

"Trespass Against Us" is a British 100-minute movie from last year (2016) and most likely the most known work by now for director Adam Smith and writer Alastair Siddons. The two big names here are Fassbender and Gleeson, but huge film fans will maybe recognize other faces like Kinnear. I am quite a Gleeson fun, but while he was good too, not even I can deny that everything and everybody in this film is inferior to Fassbender. With his performance here, he turned a mediocre story into something pretty good in my opinion. Luckily for him the character also offers really a lot, be it his violent, almost sadistic side, the character's struggle between hating and loving his dad or the connection he has with his wife and children, it is all very baity material. I expected some tragedy towards the end and while it is certainly not an entirely happy ending, it almost looks like one, so I was wrong. As for Gleeson, his character is interesting as well, he may seem like somebody easy to hate but we find out during the film that he may be a victim of his own upbringing and lets keep in mind that he apparently raised his kids on his own and managed to keep the family together somehow, even if his measures are undoubtedly something (you don't want) to get used to. As a whole, this is neither a horrible nor a great film, but Fassbender makes it very much worth watching. This is a kind of film that won't get recognized by the big awards bodies I am sure, but that is quite a shame as MF gave one of the finest performances I have seen in a long time. The more I see from him, the more of a fan I become. Go watch this movie here that luckily does not have a great title to get people interested, even if the reference to the quote from Gleeson's character's is a fitting one. I give "Trespass Against Us" a thumbs-up.

Whenever you have the skill-set of Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson at your disposal there's going to be a certain level of expectation attached to your product and while first time director Adam Smith and screenwriter Alastair Siddons story has many possibilities attached to it, this English set family drama that mixes in uneasy crime and comedy undertones is a highly disappointing affair.Trespass Against Us starts out in promising fashion as we're thrust into the caravan lives of the Cutler family led by Gleeson's matriarchal figure Colby, with his right hand man and son coming in the form of Fassbender's Chad, but things within Smith's film start to fall apart as we become aware that the film is finding it unnaturally tough when it comes to balancing the various plot threads and strands that are flowing through the veins of the picture. We're thrown around from random robberies, car chases, family dramas and animal killings without much care for making us in fact care about what's going on and at the end of the day Smith's film that initially seems like something cut from a different cloth ends up being yet another poor criminal trying to be better than his upbringing suggests and also acts out another disappointing experience from Michael Fassbender's recent career lull.A few years ago on the back of breakouts in Hunger and Inglorious Basterds then star making turns in 12 Years a Slave and Shame, Fassbender seemed likely to enter into another stage of his career only to be central to disappointments like Assassin's Creed, Light Between Oceans and The Counselor and while his actual performance as Chad here is one of his best in a few years, it's a shame the talented performer is starting to frequent feature films that are far from matching his undeniable talents as a leading man.Final Say – There's some nice things happening through Trespass Against Us but they're moments that are few and far between when we are emotionally unattached from a majority of the films occurrences and while Fassbender is working hard and Gleeson is as stoic as ever, this small scale family crime drama is a hugely disappointing experience that was disguised as a fresh take on a familiar scenario.1 ½ fire extinguishers out of 5

Firstly, this film is not about Gypsies or gangsters as has been said in some reviews, it's a story of a group of travelers, a very different set of people to gypsies and arguably not what popular opinion may define as gangsters. It follows the Cutler family and some others who live in a semi-permanent camp and take to criminal deeds to make ends meet. The head of the family is Colby played brilliantly by Brendan Gleeson, and his son Chad played just as brilliantly by Michael Fassbender takes a lead role. The story is nothing new or exciting, the group struggle to survive and Chad along with his girlfriend Kelly and their 2 kids is keen to break free form the life they lead and do better. The father and the rest of the group want group cohesion and value Chad as an important part of their group especially during criminal endeavours. What sets it apart for me is that the acting is so superb from every single member of the cast that you really get to live the story and experience it. not even Georgie Smith who plays Tyson Cutler (Chad's son) nor Kacie Anderson who plays Chad's daughter put a foot wrong despite some scenes that could be difficult for kids. I would not say as some do that I really felt sorry for Chad's family and routed for them, or that I despised them for being criminals. I didn't make that decision in my mind although I was sad at the mindsets that were portrayed: it's such a shame that people can live this way with no regard for the rest of society. That said I did enjoy the portrayal of the lives and lifestyles by competent actors that made me believe the story. The only down side for me that prevented a 10 was the sometimes difficult filming, yet again this hand-held stuff that seems to be trendy to directors these days, but only serves to make us seasick and unable to focus on where the visuals are leading. I pray that one day some director will realize this is an awful way to film. In a nutshell a decent story, fabulous acting and great direction means a thoroughly enjoyable evening watching this and an after taste that Michael Fassbender reminds me of the superlative that is Daniel Day Lewis.
