Blending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction

Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.

Before I get into writing my thoughts on the movie, I should mention that I frequently watch violent "R" rated movies, and their content normally doesn't disturb me. However, the violent content in "Truth or Consequences, N.M." disturbed me. This is a movie that has no humanity at all. Characters are violently killed on a whim throughout, and the movie has no humanity at all. I think what really disturbed me was that this violent content was placed against a movie that otherwise wants to be a light-hearted romp, an attempt to emulate the style of "Pulp Fiction". But this movie is not made with Tarantino skill. It's just a simple-minded exercise with no wit, no insight, and just an excuse to follow repulsive characters for a 100 or so minutes. It's no wonder the distributor didn't give this much of a release.

If you like crime drama with lots of action with a little romance, then this movie is a good way to spend a couple of hours and a few bucks. Overall, the movie is very good. The story premise is excellent. A lot of interesting twists and surprises. I found myself not wanting to leave my seat for fear of missing something. The title does not come into play until late, but when it does, you get the point. All the actors did a superb job. Keifer Southerland does an absolutely superb job of acting. This guy is just fantastic. Cameos by Sheen were excellent. Of course, he can play anybody, anywhere, anytime and make you believe it... The story takes you on a cool road journey through the desert. I will not tell you how it ends, but it was good for my money any day. Buy it, rent it- whatever... Bottom line?... SEE IT. You will not be disappointed.

If you don't want to ***spoil*** your dinner, don't eat desert first...It's really hard to describe the general plot of this great movie in a few words; a pure love story, an exciting police thriller, a lesson in life, a cruel mob-story or a totally screwed up road movie would all do fine, but in any case it's a real nice piece of acting with a blazing all-american sounding soundtrack. Kiefer really showed the world that he's not only a convincing bad guy on the screen, but also a mean movie maker.
The movie builds up towards a long lasting thrilling ending, which will really nail you to your seat. The love story ends painstakingly tragically, while in the old-school gangster movie justice prevails, in true Tarantino style. As a viewer you are drawn to sympathize with the sensitive and intelligent - yet not very bright in planning a robbery - gangster Raymond and his pregnant girlfriend Addy, but as a good citizen you feel relieved that the undercover agent Marcus survives the fire fight. A real must see if you can stand some gangster style shooting and killing here and there.

This movie is really pretty bad. What's up with like the half an hour with worthless driving shots. WE GET IT! They're on the road, blah blah blah. I hate those damned road shots because they completely take out the interest that one would have building up. Vincent Gallo is cool, her girlfriend is not. Mykleti or whatever his name is is sooooo bad. His stupid antics like trying to "walk like a black man and fit in" and talk, apparently like black people are supposed to talk..."she be toofless. she munchin on a rib and i climb-ded that window, DAWGGG..." hey they said it not me!Anyways, I liked Kiefer (his voice is hilarious when he "gets mad"), and the appearances by John Mcginley and Martin Sheen. A couple of action sequences were also cool, but that's about it. Rent this one.
