The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

I picked it up without taking much notice, the cover intrigued me, I expected a rather run of the mill US movie with the usual scares and thrills, and what I got was a rather classy British revenge horror thriller. The concept is very original, I love the story, I love the development of the characters and the story, and I was truly impressed by the ending, talk about twists and turns. You'll watch this without knowing which direction it's going in, there is so much to keep the viewer guessing.Very well acted by everyone, although the standout performances for me came from David Oakes and Jennie Jacques, they made the ending the highlight. You can't help but get into this film, and feel the sense of revenge develop. Original. 8/10

My quick rating 5,5/10. This is a revenge flick that definitely goes that extra mile to focus on the back story as much as the torture of the participants. The youths think they are going to a party for some kid they made fun of (hey, morons, why were you invited again?) and of course, revenge is on the menu. But the subtle twists in this movie make it stand out(especially towards the end). The acting of the kids (young adults, whatever) was surprisingly good but part of me thinks they were just being themselves, not acting (which is fine). The scares are minimal as this is much more psychological thriller in nature. Te payoff ends up being worth the trip (95min). As in most horror movies these days, the male dominant bad guy tends to get real clumsy and forgets how to fight (considering he was military, this seems a bit strange) but doesn't deter much from the film. It seems with all the recycled horror there is, movies such as this have a hard time standing out since they are good, but just can't make any leap above what has already been done. Enjoyable nonetheless.

5.6 stars? Really? I don't see it. The writing is simply bad. The young actors were all incredibly good in this rather ridiculous torture porn/revenge genre flick. The list of idiotic movie decisions is just too long. The acting actually made the glaringly bad calls seem even less plausible. I did find a new love however, Florence Hall is ethereal. She is the highpoint of the film and I lost all interest when she left the story. There is a forced and unnatural trend in all movies today but especially horror to shock even at the expense of the story that I find very irritating. It takes me right out of the movie and all I get is a mental picture of two turbo nerds high fiving each other over the oh, so, big 'shocker' they just delivered and taking a break to pound Red Bulls and play PS4. This contrived end to one of the characters was then called out to the degree of jagoffness by the bad guy taking the body that was in a totally different location and driving it back to where the others were. Why? Too many F-ing Red Bulls, that's why. What makes this a worse failure is it had all the makings of a great suspense film. It had me engaged until the stupid factor got too great and then it was just playing in the background while I went back to work. I will look for Florence Hall and the rest of the cast in upcoming movies, though, so that's a good thing.

We've seen this sort of film many times before, a small group of youthful guys and girls turn up at a mysterious mansion, and those who survive wish they'd stayed at home. Well, yes, but this one is not more of the same. "Truth Or Die" has had some poor and some not so good reviews, but a lot of people liked it, and it is indeed a superior offering. The group in question are a bunch of upper class wasters, they are invited to the birthday party of the son of an extremely wealthy family, a loner who had been the butt of ridicule at an earlier party as we are shown here, only when they turn up they are met not by Felix but by his brother Justin, who is a well-muscled soldier back from Afghanistan, not his first tour. The alpha-female of the group takes an instant liking to him, but things soon turn nasty when they are informed not just that their host won't be joining them but that he can't. What happens next will surprise you, there is more than one twist in the tale, suffice to say that it is the women who wear the trousers. David Oakes shines as the psychopath bent on revenge, and the other performances are equally persuasive.
