SpuffyWeb Sadly Over-hyped
SpunkySelfTwitter It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.
Kamila Bell This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Kimball Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
films_r_forver This movie does the book justice! Being one who just loves this book, i was skeptical as to whether the movie would do it justice! Both Jack Lemmon and Hank Azaria do a brilliant job and it is just such a beautiful movie! Lemmon is absolutely perfect for the role of wise, old Morrie, whom is just so lovable in this role. All of life's greatest lessons can be learned from watching this and it really captures the essence of life and friendship itself. Really moving, thought provoking and touching. Keep a box of tissues handy, because the tears will be streaming all through it!!A simply beautiful movie that will change your view on life and really teach you what it means to be living!!
ross robinson I loved this movie. I thought Tuesday's with Morrie was a fantastic story. I watched it and it gave me tears to my eyes because of the way the actors acted when Morrie said his last words to Mitch. Jack lemmon is my favourite actor, i think he is fantastic, he never wanted to make boring movies, he always waited for good scripts because to me that just feels that in his life, he wanted to do great movies and he wanted to show us that he can make us feel better, like feel cheered up and feel happier. I think what Morrie said to us about dying and living knowing about it, I think the message: IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DIE THEN YOU KNOW HOW TO LIVE" I think that's telling us now that you've known how to live, now you are going to know what it's like to die. It just feels that the time you have left, you have to enjoy it. Be brave, Be strong. Thank you Jack for all the brilliant movies you made. GOD BLESS YOU.
john c griffin One of a kind film that teaches us to enjoy each day and not take anything for granted. Also teaches us about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and its devastating effects on even the most fun-loving of people (Jack Lemmon) and how someone's illness and imminent death can affect those closest to the victim (family as well as close friends) in both a sad and positive way. I thought this was a beautiful film and Jack Lemmon gave an excellent performance. When he was saying goodby to his "favorite pupil" on his deathbed and lectured him one last time "I'll be buried by a beautiful oak tree, you talk, I'll just listen." This movie has both a sad but beautiful ending in getting across the message that death is a part of living and shouldn't be feared. Maybe this message is too heavy for some of the other so called critics but we all have to face up to it eventually.
bob the moo Successful sports journalist Mitch is caused to pause in his life when he hears that his old professor Morrie Schwartz is dying. He tries to get away from his work and manages to go for one day. However when Morrie's `end of life' viewpoint put his life in perspective he decides to come every Tuesday to get the most of the relationship before it is too late. Gradually Mitch learns about his life from this dying man. When you see Oprah Winfrey's name as an executive producer you pretty much know you're not in action-comedy territory. This is a weepy, sentimental film through and through. The plot is a very simple voyage of discovery for Mitch as he reassesses his priorities in life when he talks to Morrie. This is pretty good but it does overdo the sentiment and mush. The story is only going one place and it holds no real surprises. It didn't really bring any emotion out of me and I have to say it was too forced and sentimental for me.The direction doesn't help as it has too many close-ups and cuts too quickly. It feels like a TV movie and, as such, it has a sentimental feel of a TV movie. Lemmon doesn't help as we see him cheerful and wise more often than we see the real fear and pain he feels. He does OK but really he is slumming it in this film – doing a really simple `death' scene spread over 90 minutes. Azaria is also iffy. His voice over has little emotion and only tells us what we can work out for ourselves. He is good enough to carry the moral center of the film but I've seen him do much better than this.Overall this is perfect for a wet Sunday afternoon. It's soppy, sentimental and wafer thin. However if you're in a more demanding mood not even the presence of Lemmon and Azaria will make this any better than average.
