CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Doomtomylo a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
Helllins It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.
Lucia Ayala It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
ohkijiji Not sure how this movie can entertain - far far from reality. Shows highly complicated relationships which seem unpalatable no matter how much one stretches the imagination. In an effort to make this movie "smart" the director has utterly failed in his endeavor and dished out pathetic story with equally pathetic performances.
Jatin Bhatia this is a movie which makes us see pixels on a much larger painting up close like basic aspects of human behavior and character motivations and at the end grabs us by the arm and makes us watch the big "ugly" picture and no matter how hard we try to close our eyes it holds our eye lids open . So often we start fueling our lives by hate, jealousy, greed and how others perceive us that we stop living and start thinking that we'll find joy at our life's ext intersection and same is the case with the characters in this movie. An ex-husband who is a struggling to get a break as an actor and wants to regain his daughters custody and wife's affection. His wife who left him after his getting tired of his constant abuse,to go to a guy who loved her since college for comfort. The lover who just wants both of them to squirm to avenge the humiliation that he faced during his collage years and many other characters just as messed up as these and their struggle to get the girl back each with dark underlying motives of their own. Who are so blinded by them that they are unable to see the obvious truth which is right in front of them and can save the girl. this movie leaves a lot of room for interpretation and imagination a must watch for people who enjoy the genres crime and thriller
mbala999 I have often seen people compare anurag kashyap's work being compared to that of Tarantino or Scorsese. But I feel he has his own unique style of movie making. I feel he has out done himself with this one. All events in the movie basically point out the 'Ugliness' of human nature which twists and turns an event of kidnapping of girl to set- off a hunt not for the girl but for their own self-interests which vary from money to revenge. At each and every turn of the movie we see the darkness of characters unfold slowly and overcome by greed they destroy each other but forget the very goal which brought them into this mess We do see pointers of anurag's classic writing style, the swear words , the dark comedy & a thrilling story. You wouldn't find a story more dark & twisted than this. The movie keeps surprising you till the very end. A must watch for any person who seen anurag's previous movies and a must watch for anyone nevertheless. This is a 10/10 for me.
npdeo18 The film was released at a time when all the single screen and multiplexes were showcasing PK. And it was disheartening to see an empty cinema hall even on the day of its release, Perhaps due to bad promotion. IT showed the selfish attitude of the people including ones own relative as well. it showed even a wife, husband or brother etc will go to any extent to fulfill their selfish needs. Coming to performance Ronit Roy was perfectly suited for the role as a police officer and was the best performance in the entire film. Tejaswini Kolhapure performance was the best after her role in the unreleased Paanch as selfish wife, if she had remained in the limelight she would have been the next Shabana Azmi. Rahul Bhatt, his role in Nayee padosan was quite irritating, but through Ugly Anurag Kashyap has been able to tap out the hidden talent from him as well. Sidhant kapoor was another surprise package and in terms of acting he is turning out to be better than his father as well and Girish Kulkarni's portrayal as a inspector was unintentionally funny in his introduction and rest part was carried with ease and his performance was superior even compared towards his performance in Marathi films Meanwhile Vineet Singh and other supporting cast enacted their parts very effectively. Hope in the future the film will achieve a cult status and would be a benchmark for all the aspiring directors as well
