Michael Ledo Vamps is a chick flick. It would most likely get a five star review at a Taylor Swift concert. Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter play two vampires in the modern dating era. Alicia dates back to the 1840's and has trouble adjusting to modern gadgets, while Krysten is at home with them. Both of the women develop love interests. Alicia meets an old boyfriend (Richard Lewis) from the 1960's while Krysten falls for a man named Van Helsing (Dan Stevens) who has a father who hunts vampires. The Vamps are part of a support group who only drink animal blood. The jokes consist of mostly lame vampire humor such as women attempting to apply make-up without a mirror. There is one scene where Alicia is looking through pictures of old boyfriends. One of the pictures is Edgar Allen Poe. There were some scenes that worked and were funny. Unfortunately too much of the film had humor and scenes that didn't make it for a mature audience. Definitely only a rental. A sometimes fun film you might want to see once.Parental Guide: 1-f-bomb, implied sex, no nudity.
Irishchatter I wouldn't call this a scary movie, yes you might get a few jumps of shock but honestly it is not that bad for kids over 10 years old to watch this film. Anyways the movie was more like a slapstick nice comedy then you think. I suppose Amy Heckerling just wanted to keep it nice and sweet since Alison Silverstone and Wallace Shawn were involved with the whole lot. It's surprising that Wallace actually used curse words, part of my childhood ruined. Well duh, it's not that bad, he is still a great icon for my generation, he deserves credit like since I don't see him much in films these days. Alison honestly looks well and to be honest, she will always be that young teenage girl from Clueless in my eyes. She's always the stunning lady.I know Justin Kirk is way older then me but I thought he was pretty darn sexy in this for some reason as his character Vadim. He really should've played as Dracula instead of Malcolm McDowell to be honest. Oh by the way, be prepared for blood if you're watching this film.
diverdiva What can I say? I thought I'd give this a try because of all the glowing reviews on IMDb - maybe have an enjoyable 'chick flick' night in with some popcorn and a few laughs. Besides, a movie with Sigourney Weaver and Malcolm McDowell couldn't be all bad? Boy, was I in for a big disappointment! Whilst the premise had potential (2 girly vamps, surviving in modern NY and abstaining from human blood, while trying to live 'normal' lives), the execution was dire - the acting was amateurish and I'm afraid that Alicia Silverstone is past the age of this kind of role - she acted more mature in "Clueless"! Sigourney must have cringed when she saw the finished result, she was given terrible material to work with and wasn't able to improve on it. Malcolm McDowell's cameo as Vlad Dracul was actually quite funny, but there wasn't enough of him to save the film. Dan Stevens as 'son of Van Helsing' just looked bewildered and sorry to be there, which I'm sure he was - this was not a good choice for a break-through role in Hollywood. Sincerely, don't waste your time - if you want a comedy vamp film, dig out "Love at First Bite" - if you want Sigourney being nasty, watch "Working Girl" - well, just watch ANYTHING other than this woeful mess!
Andy Bryan OK. I had reasonably high expectations of this movie after seeing the trailer. Well, it's OK. That's about it. The story is light but fine, there are a few humorous moments in there, and the characters are OK. But it's a bit of a drag. The special effects are a little hit and miss, and it was all wrapped up a little too neat, tidy and predictably. Another sad fact is that unfortunately Alicia Silverstone, although a babe, is getting a little too old to play these ditsy comedic roles anymore. To me, Dan (Downton Abbey) Stevens, Sigourney Weaver and Wallace Shawn were wasted in this movie. All a bit too lightweight, predictable and run of the mill for me.
