It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

This is another beautiful documentary made by Canadian/Quebecois director's Michel Brault and Claude Jutra- shot in the Direct Cinema tradition. The film was directed by Brault & Jutra, shot by Brault & Gosselin, and edited by Jutra- a truly collaborative effort. It offers us yet another glimpse into Quebec culture during the infancy of the Quiet Revolution. The film is shot as if from the perspective of a privileged tourist, as they approach the border crossing. Most of the footage was shot from a moving car; with the rest emulating the curious "eye of the other". A keen and attentive eye that is always observing and absorbing, not only the ongoing events, but local inhabitants as well.6 out of 10.
