Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast

This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama

Okay, this movie is really bizarre. I wouldn't say it's necessarily bad, but it's really strange that the creators try to sell it as a romance. In order for anything about this movie to make any sense, you have to look at it as a drama, NOT a romance. The main character, wandering hopeless romantic Will, clearly has some sort of mental illness, likely related to the trauma of losing his parents at a young age (not a spoiler). He has the emotional maturity of a small child, but the movie seems to play it off as whimsical idealism: he's mostly portrayed not as a seriously deluded man but as, for lack of better term, a manic pixie dream boy. The audience is evidently supposed to find it charming that a man of 25 has no job, wears the same dirty clothes every day, and spends his life stalking his childhood friend without her knowledge, fantasizing about their nonexistent relationship. The only person privy to Will's mental instability is his older brother Jim, who is made out to be the no-fun bad guy for merely pointing out the truth about Will. The movie is semi-enjoyable in the context of a drama dealing with mental illness, unsettling and dysfunctional if you're expecting a romance. Will is a creepy character; there's no way around it.

I think the concept of the film is quite different and personally I think its hard to portray this very well. I don't think this film did that. Both Emma and Willy where very strange characters and I could not get a feel for them at all which is not what I expect from films like this.I was generally hoping for some romantic you know teen sample but it really thrown that whole idea away and focused more on the emotion towards both characters singly. If you read the synopsis of the film beforehand which I did it seems as if it will mostly be both the characters throughout the film but it was completely different and I don't like to dislike this movie but it was difficult for me to connect towards the characters. From the airport scene at the end, this was the moment where I all of a sudden paid more attention to the characters because you could then start seeing links towards Willy and Emma. The letters where a great aspect that I started feeling something for the characters because before any of this I pretty much wasn't even rooting for Willy which I don't know why. The ending had a great scene with the juggling which was probably my favourite bit to be honest. I could see something between them which then there was a sudden glimpse of rooting for Willy which pretty much saved the film for me at the end.Overall I think the film and actors have potential certainly it just wasn't for me and I think 6/10 is pretty much it.

This story in my own words is Will Donner (Tom Sturridge) who knew no better than to follow Emma Twist (Rachel Bilson) his long lost childhood girlfriend, in which he believed it was his destiny to follow her rather then get a job and live his life.Personally, I was flicking through the movie channels and on came this movie which began with a young adult Will Donner hitchhiking, at this moment the movie is going so slow to the extent which I am taken in to a life of this delusional young man.Now more about the story and characters. Firstly, did I say story? I meant to say stories, of course there was the story of a guy who was in love with a girl from his childhood and could not detach himself however, a really effective story line surreptitiously entered the movie with the appearance Richard Jenkins (Playing Richard Twist, Emma's dad), he played a very obnoxious man towards his wife; Richard and Miranda Twist were a couple in which both shared the same love for each other but, struggled to understand each other (The 'bath' scene is the best scene to explain the relationship between then and arguably the most effective moment/scene between these two characters). One other character/actor which I want to show appreciation for are Scott Mechlowicz (Jim Donner, Will's bigger and more successful brother). I adored Scott's sinister performance in 'Gone' and he almost carried his hateful/selfish character over to this movie and I hated him which is good. A bit of depreciation for characters now, I didn't think the rest of the characters put in a performance fulfilling their potential, especially Rachel Bilson as a main character. (Obviously I am excluding Tom Sturridge in this depreciation list, but I will get on to him next).Tom Sturridge, wow. The first review I saw of this movie said something along the lines of "The whole cast seemed to be relying on the performance of Tom Sturridge", which is totally right! Now without plagiarizing this individuals review I think I can safely say Sturridge put in a really great performance, which made up for the slightly under- performing cast.I cannot stress enough how much I wish this movie was "at least" a 6.0, let alone a 7.0. I found it really deep and thought this was a fairly original storyline, however with around 12,000 user ratings (when I am writing this review) you can tell the movie was not exactly a hyped up high budget movie.

We saw this on Netflix streaming movies.Rachel Bilson is Emma Twist, from Pennsylvania. When she grew up she moved to Los Angeles and became a TV star. She is dating her co-star, and figures they will get married, but she doesn't seem totally devoted to him. And he isn't a very nice guy. As a kid growing up Emma had a best friend, maybe even boyfriend, until they parted when they were 10. But the boy lost his parents in a tragic train wreck, and he was haunted by their presence, often turning aside and talking to them. As a young adult this boy is played by Brit Tom Sturridge as Will Donner. Unknown to Emma, Will has been moving to every place that Emma has lived, to be close to her, although he never was even bold enough to disclose his presence. His brother, a banker, thinks Will is "Effing crazy."Most of the story here is back home in Pennsylvania. Will works up the courage to tell Emma hello on the sidewalk by her home, she thinks by coincidence, but it was part of his "stalking." She isn't pleased when she learns the whole story, but movies of this sort have a way of working out.We enjoyed it.SPOILERS: Will is a funny, spontaneous guy. He is also a juggler. He has been working as a street entertainer, with face paint, in the various cities where Emma has lived, that is why she never recognized him. In the end Emma was able to show Will why his stalking was not right, but after he moved away to San Francisco and sent her a letter, she realized what he had hoped all along, they were soul mates, and she looked him up.
