Watch something else. There are very few redeeming qualities to this film.

A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

There is definitely an excellent idea hidden in the background of the film. Unfortunately, it's difficult to find it.

A small-town girl wins a date with a male celebrity through a contest. When the date goes better than expected, a love triangle forms between the girl, the male celebrity, and the girl's best friend. Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! is a bit charming and the actors do try their best (Josh Duhamel, Kate Bosworth and Topher Grace) unfortunately i think the film was missing the much more romantic part that it needed and it lacked on that scale also some of the dialogue was a bit cheesy as a whole. Not a terrible movie of course just a very disappointing and below average romantic comedy that could have been way better plus Bosworth's character at times was a bit too much "smart". (5/10)

A delightful romantic comedy inventively directed by Bob Luketic, this one has some nice twists in its scenario and is most ingratiatingly played by all concerned, but particularly by our heroine, Kate Bosworth, and her two leading men, charming Josh Duhamel as the Hollywood star, "Tad Hamilton", and Topher Grace as the hometown boy who knows he's outclassed, but is in there pitching anyway. To my surprise, the movie cost around $24 million, a staggering sum for what we actually see on the screen. I know at least four or five producers who could have wrapped it up for half that sum, but there was no way it could have recouped $24 million. Thus, despite good attendance figures, the movie actually lost money and returned only around sixty cents in the dollar to its investors. Available on an excellent DreamWorks DVD.

As my readers know, I like romantic comedies, but I have also lambasted my fair share of them as well. "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!" is certainly not good but it has its moments.Starting with its negative points. This has to be one of the worst, most over-done, tiresome story lines ever. Small-town girl meets big movie star, he falls in love with her charms, but can she fit in to his world? Usually the answer is I don't care. And this time I certainly was not excited to see how they get to the inevitable ending, but its cuteness kept me watching none-the-less.Casting is a double-edged sword, and here they played both sides of it. Fairly out-of-the-box casting ideas is what drew me in. Topher Grace as Pete is handsome, adorable, and you can feel his pain when he can't get Rosalee to notice him. Josh Duhamel as Tad Hamilton is in all ways the big, hot-shot, drop-dead-gorgeous movie star. And finally, Kate Bosworth as Rosalee is the girl-next-door, sweet, innocent, down-to-earth and every other endearing synonym you can come up with. They are all humble enough that it works. And then they added the flamboyant Sean Hayes and Nathan Lane for their inevitable laughs. The interesting issue I had was that the main actors were all 30-ish (Bosworth was slightly younger) and they were all older than their teen and pre-teen audience. I would have thought that younger actors would draw more for their target audience."Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!" is not all that good, but as a fan of Topher Grace, I found myself almost liking it.

Where do I get in line for that movie? Cause I'm bewildered about this dud. Who on earth was it made for? Girls, who don't want to end up with their best platonic male friend? Or guys, who don't want to see their pathetic situation depicted in a lousy chick flick? Kate Bosworth takes a step-down from Blue Crush (!) where she at least had to feign competence at something. Here her underwritten part doesn't give her two brain cells to rub together. She's given nothing to play with or develop, except conventions, which the movie (also) relies on way too much.Despite being a media hound (She has to be to follow Tad Hamilton) her character is a smalltown, corn-pone drip, just this side of the Beverly Hillbillies. She's unaware of wealth, players, real estate, the game... etc. What girl (with looks) passes up an express ticket into the center of the Hollywood machine to stay in Hooterville and hold sweaty hands with some guy? Topher Grace plays the putz, who desires Bosworth although he, and the entire audience have concluded she's an irritating dunce. The world could bear a funny, smart movie called "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton" but this movie has no energy, no charm, no hook, no look, no humor, no angle, no viewpoint, and not a shred of savviness. It's like a time tunnel transporting you back to 20 or 30 lookalike, half-hearted romances from the 80s.
